In May, Janet Finch-Saunders MS, Member of the Senedd for Bangor Conwy Môn, submitted a series of Written Questions to the First Minister, including:
“What steps is the Welsh Government taking to proceed with the creation of a third Menai Crossing?”
And:
“What steps is the Welsh Government taking to remove the roundabouts on junctions 15 and 16 of the A55?”
In his responses, the First Minister confirmed that the A55, A494 and A483 Transport Needs and Resilience Review, which includes consideration of the Third Menai Crossing and the two roundabouts, is due to be published this summer.
Janet commented:
“I have long campaigned for the removal of the Junction 15 and 16 roundabouts. In recent years, there have been 13 collisions at Junction 15 (Llanfairfechan) and a further 10 at Junction 16 (Penmaenmawr). Their removal was also supported through the £9 million consultation carried out by the previous Welsh Labour Government.
“I will continue to call on First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth MS to commit to removing these roundabouts. Delays have allowed this pattern of accidents and injuries to continue for far too long.
“The Menai crossings are vital to local communities and the regional economy. We have repeatedly seen the significant impact of closures, including last week, as well as the congestion caused by ongoing repair works.
“I have urged the First Minister to work with me to ensure the Third Menai Crossing is delivered for the people of Ynys Môn and North Wales.”
