Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so that we can all have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities. Having taken part in many beach clean ups, in Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders MS, Shadow Minister for Climate Change still sees the effects of single use plastic waste.
Commenting on the annual occasion, Janet said.
“Plastic Free July is a vitally important month as we aim to raise awareness of how damaging plastic single use plastic can be to our planet and local communities. I’m pleased to see a global campaign take centre stage in raising awareness around this issue and I know that people have already started to move to reusable plastics and other better alternatives to serve their daily lives.”
Commenting further, Janet said.
“Plastic bottles can take up to 450 years to decompose with a plastic carrier bag taking up to 1,000 years. The Welsh Conservatives have consistently put pressure on the Welsh Labour Government to act on the sale of single-use plastics in Wales and a move to ban plastic straws, cups and cutlery should be taken if we want to see cleaner streets, parks, and beaches.
Plastic free July has my full support and I encourage other to get on board and look at ways they can minimise their plastic usage.“
