FOLLOWING a long running campaign the Welsh government has agreed to the installation of a new pedestrian crossing in Glan Conwy.

The scheme will be programmed for implementation early in 2020.

Janet Finch-Saunders AM, who has been involved in the campaign, said: “The Welsh government has road blocked our calls for a crossing for years, but our persistent tailgating of Ken Skates, the Minister for Economy and Transport, has paid off.

“I am delighted he has finally agreed to order the completion of the design of the zebra crossing, and that we should see it in place early next year.”

Mr Skates said: “Attendees at the public consultation were unanimously in favour of the option to remove the existing pedestrian crossing and provide a new four metre wide zebra crossing north of the access to the railway station, opposite the Cross Keys public house.

“The Welsh government has therefore commissioned the design of the zebra crossing and a shared use path for cyclists and pedestrians from the crossing to Cae Ffwt Business Park. Subject to completion of the design and awarding the contract, the scheme will be programmed for implementation early in 2020.”
