Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, is delighted that next week the issue surrounding the removal of quarry rocks and the restoration of sand and groynes to Llandudno North Shore will be debated in the Welsh Parliament.

Following Councillor Ian Turner's petition, which has garnered over 12,000 signatures, a debate on the matter will take place on March 20th.

In response to hearing about the debate Cllr Ian Turner said:

“I trust that common sense will prevail, and I urge the Welsh Government to support tourism in Llandudno and its surrounding areas by returning the sand to the beach. This action would uplift an industry that has been relentlessly battered, to the extent that it is currently on its knees.

"Tourism in North Wales is on the brink, and restoring the sand on Llandudno's beach is crucial to seize the opportunity of revitalising our tourism sector.”

Commenting on the news Janet said:

“Welsh Labour, Plaid Cymru, and Independent Councillors made a grave error in allowing the dumping of quarry rocks on our beautiful beach, resulting in a £1.4 million expense to taxpayers and the destruction of a key attraction to the Queen of the Welsh resorts.

“The Welsh Government’s coastal defence scheme currently underway will not see the return of sand as they continue with an approach that is underfunded, impractical and sporadic in nature. Restoring the sand is absolutely essential as a visitor attraction and local landmark. It is therefore crucial that the Welsh Government immediately prioritises the tourism funding grant needed for this restoration.

“Together, we have achieved remarkable progress with over 12,000 signatures. I hope that, as a collective, we can pave the way for a brighter future for North Wales and its crucial tourism sector. Let's strive to restore the sandy beach, which is not only vital for Llandudno’s economy but also an asset it rightfully deserves.”

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, AS Aberconwy, wrth ei bodd y bydd mater symud creigiau chwarel ac adfer tywod a grwynau i Draeth y Gogledd Llandudno yn destun dadl yn Senedd Cymru wythnos nesaf.

Yn dilyn deiseb y Cynghorydd Ian Turner, sydd wedi ennyn dros 12,000 o lofnodion, bydd dadl ar y mater yn cael ei chynnal ar 20 Mawrth.

Mewn ymateb i glywed am y ddadl, dywedodd y Cynghorydd Ian Turner:

“Rwy'n hyderus y bydd synnwyr cyffredin yn ennill y dydd, ac rwy'n annog Llywodraeth Cymru i gefnogi twristiaeth yn Llandudno a'r ardaloedd cyfagos drwy ddychwelyd tywod i'r traeth. Byddai'r weithred hon yn rhoi hwb i ddiwydiant sydd wedi dioddef sawl ergyd i'r fath raddau nes ei bod ar ei gliniau ar hyn o bryd.

"Mae twristiaeth yn y Gogledd ar y dibyn, ac mae adfer y tywod ar draeth Llandudno yn hanfodol er mwyn achub ar y cyfle i adfywio ein sector twristiaeth.”

Wrth sôn am y newyddion dywedodd Janet:

“Fe wnaeth Llafur Cymru, Plaid Cymru, a Chynghorwyr Annibynnol gamgymeriad mawr wrth adael i greigiau chwarel gael eu gollwng ar ein traeth hyfryd, gan arwain at gost o £1.4 miliwn i drethdalwyr a dinistrio atyniad allweddol i berl trefi glan môr Cymru.

“Ni fydd cynllun amddiffyn arfordirol arfaethedig Llywodraeth Cymru yn dod â thywod yn ôl wrth iddyn barhau â dull heb ei ariannu'n ddigonol, sy’n anymarferol ac yn ddarniog. Mae adfer y tywod yn gwbl hanfodol fel atyniad i ymwelwyr ac fel tirnod lleol. Felly, mae'n hollbwysig bod Llywodraeth Cymru yn blaenoriaethu'r grant cyllid twristiaeth sydd ei angen ar unwaith ar gyfer y gwaith adfer hwn.

“Gyda'n gilydd, rydyn ni wedi cyflawni cynnydd rhyfeddol gyda 12,000 a mwy o lofnodion. Rwy'n gobeithio, fel grŵp, y gallwn baratoi'r ffordd ar gyfer dyfodol mwy disglair i ranbarth y Gogledd a'i sector twristiaeth hanfodol. Gadewch i ni ymdrechu i adfer y traeth tywodlyd, sydd nid yn unig yn hanfodol i economi Llandudno ond hefyd yn ased y mae'n haeddiannol ohono."
