Janet Finch-Saunders MS has praised the success of the recent public meeting on the future of the Menai crossings. The meeting saw a strong turnout from residents and local representatives, highlighting the importance of securing both short and long-term solutions for the region.
The meeting brought together members of the Senedd including Janet Finch-Saunders MS, Mair Rowlands MS and Helen Jenner MS, Members of Parliament including Claire Hughes MP and Llinos Medi MP. There was also a strong turnout of councillors across Ynys Môn and representatives from North Wales Police, alongside members of the public. The discussion was constructive and demonstrated the value of cross-party working on an issue that affects communities across North Wales.
Janet Finch-Saunders, Senedd Member for Bangor Conwy Môn said:
“I would like to thank everyone who attended what was a very positive and constructive meeting. It was particularly encouraging to see representatives from across the political spectrum coming together, putting party politics aside and working in the interests of our communities.
There was a clear view from the majority present that a third Menai crossing is needed to provide long-term resilience, connectivity and economic benefits that Ynys Môn and North Wales deserve. At the same time, there were equally strong concerns about the need for short-term solutions to address the ongoing disruption people are continuing to face.
One of the biggest positives from the evening was the willingness of elected representatives, agencies and residents working together. Major infrastructure challenges cannot be solved by one party alone, and I believe cross party cooperation gives us the best chance of delivering both immediate improvements and a lasting solution for future generations.”
