Today in the Senedd I provided a short statement on what plans the Welsh Government have to increase the supply of locally sourced foods.

The war in Ukraine and the climate emergency has highlighted the need for the UK to increase our food independence. Wales has a vibrant food and farming sector, which can produce food whilst doing its bit to reduce climate change.

“The Ukrainian War and climate crisis had made it clear that we must reduce reliance on imports.

The £8.5 billion Welsh food and farming sector can continue to grow thanks to the role Welsh farmers play in producing climate friendly food

However, the Agricultural (Wales) Bill has a major flaw

Whilst you have quite rightly made the production of food the first objective, this is out of synch with

  • Potentially forcing farmers to have 10% tree cover on their land
  • And expanding the NVZ from 2.4% to 100% of Welsh farmland

Rather than championing Aberconwy farmers in producing local climate friendly food, what they are witnessing is a Welsh Government which is coming at their businesses with a guillotine, cutting their production ability and chance of survival.

Will you ensure that the production of food is not just a legislative objective, but actually achievable by taking decisive action to stop the series of Plaid Cymru and Welsh Labour anti local Agri production actions?”

END...

Heddiw yn y Senedd rhoddais ddatganiad byr ar y cynlluniau sydd gan Lywodraeth Cymru i gynyddu'r cyflenwad o fwydydd o ffynonellau lleol.

Mae'r rhyfel yn Wcráin a'r argyfwng hinsawdd wedi amlygu'r angen i'r DU gynyddu ei hannibyniaeth o ran bwyd. Mae yna sector bwyd a ffermio hyfyw yng Nghymru, sy'n gallu cynhyrchu bwyd a gwneud ei rhan i leihau newid hinsawdd.

"Yn sgil Rhyfel Wcráin a’r argyfwng hinsawdd, daeth yn amlwg bod yn rhaid i ni leihau ein dibyniaeth ar fewnforion.

Mae’r sector bwyd a ffermio yng Nghymru yn werth £8.5 biliwn a gall barhau i dyfu diolch i rôl ffermwyr Cymru yn y gwaith o gynhyrchu bwyd mewn modd ystyriol o’r hinsawdd

Ond mae diffyg mawr ym Mil Amaethyddiaeth (Cymru)

Mae’n gwbl briodol eich bod wedi gwneud cynhyrchu bwyd yn brif amcan, ond nid yw hyn yn gyson â

  • Gorfodi ffermwyr o bosibl i orchuddio 10% o’u tir â choed
  • Ehangu'r Parth Perygl Nitradau o 2.4% i 100% o dir ffermio Cymru

Yn hytrach na hyrwyddo ffermwyr Aberconwy i gynhyrchu bwyd lleol mewn modd ystyriol o'r hinsawdd, yr hyn maen nhw'n ei weld yw Llywodraeth Cymru yn ymosod ar eu busnesau â bwyell, a dryllio eu gallu i gynhyrchu a’u siawns o oroesi.

A wnewch chi sicrhau bod cynhyrchu bwyd yn bwysicach nag amcan deddfwriaethol, a’i wneud yn amcan gwirioneddol gyraeddadwy trwy gymryd camau pendant i atal cyfres Plaid Cymru a Llafur Cymru o gamau gweithredu sy’n wrthwynebus i gynhyrchu amaethyddol lleol?"
