From Sunday 1st June, single use vapes have been banned across the whole of the UK, in an attempt to reduce the environmental harm caused by their production and inappropriate disposable.
Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy and the Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Climate Change has welcomed this ban.
Commenting on the introduction of the ban, Janet said:
“I welcome this ban, that was first proposed by the former Conservative UK Government.
“Keep Wales Tidy has highlighted the significant environmental damage that these single use vapes produced.
“360,000 single use vapes being littered on the ground in Wales, with an additional 120,000 being flushed down the toilet, all in one year. Personally, when holding beach cleans, I have seen the plague of disposable vapes on the shore line.
“Without being disposed of properly these vapes have added to plastic pollution, which has a negative impact on Welsh wildlife.
“This ban will help reduce litter and protect our environment”.

Ers dydd Sul 1 Mehefin, mae fêps untro wedi’u gwahardd ledled y DU mewn ymgais i leihau’r difrod amgylcheddol sy’n deillio o’u cynhyrchu a’u gwaredu yn amhriodol.
Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o Senedd Cymru dros Aberconwy a Gweinidog yr Wrthblaid dros Newid Hinsawdd, wedi croesawu’r gwaharddiad hwn.
Wrth drafod cyflwyno’r gwaharddiad, meddai Janet:
“Rwy’n croesawu’r gwaharddiad hwn a gafodd ei gynnig yn wreiddiol gan Lywodraeth Geidwadol flaenorol y DU.
“Mae Cadwch Gymru’n Daclus wedi nodi’r difrod amgylcheddol sylweddol sy’n cael ei achosi gan fêps untro.
“Mewn un flwyddyn yn unig yng Nghymru, cafodd 360,000 o fêps untro eu taflu ar y llawr fel sbwriel ac fe gafodd 120,000 eu fflysio i lawr y toiled. Wrth gynnal digwyddiadau glanhau’r traeth, dwi wedi gweld llawer iawn o fêps untro ar y draethlin.
“Trwy beidio â gwaredu’r fêps hyn yn briodol, maen nhw wedi ychwanegu at lygredd plastig, sy’n cael effaith negyddol ar fywyd gwyllt Cymru.
“Bydd y gwaharddiad hwn yn helpu i leihau sbwriel a diogelu’r amgylchedd”.
