This week the Association for Project Safety took the time to highlight to the Welsh Parliament the vital importance of builders, and the need for the Welsh Government to do more to help with mental health concerns, education, and encouraging more into the sector.
After meeting with the Association, Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, said:
“I would like to thank Devin, Bryn, and Ceri for meeting with me this week. I was grateful to learn more about the experiences of people working in construction and about the work that they undertake.
“Mental health is such a vital area, and those who are struggling, especially in isolated environments, as many builders experience, should be able to access the support they need without any external concerns.
“We need to address the skills gap in construction, which can be achieved by ensuring that all teachers are up to date with the latest methods and understand the challenges facing the sector. This will help prepare the next generation of builders as they enter the workforce. In addition, we should be enabling more women to feel confident pursuing careers in construction and breaking down any barriers that exist.
“It was a fantastic meeting, and I look forward to engaging with the Association to support the sector going forward.”

Yr wythnos hon bu’r Gymdeithas er Diogelwch Prosiectau yn tynnu sylw’r Senedd at bwysigrwydd hanfodol adeiladwyr, ac at yr angen i Lywodraeth Cymru wneud mwy i helpu gyda phryderon iechyd meddwl, addysg, a helpu i annog rhagor i ymuno â’r sector.
Ar ôl cyfarfod â'r Gymdeithas, dywedodd Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy:
"Hoffwn ddiolch i Devin, Bryn, a Ceri am gyfarfod â mi’r wythnos hon. Roeddwn i'n ddiolchgar i ddysgu mwy am brofiadau pobl sy'n gweithio ym maes adeiladu ac am y gwaith y maen nhw’n ei wneud.
"Mae iechyd meddwl yn faes mor hanfodol, a dylai'r rhai sy'n cael trafferth, yn enwedig mewn amgylcheddau ynysig, fel y mae llawer o adeiladwyr yn eu profi, allu cael mynediad at y cymorth sydd ei angen arnyn nhw heb unrhyw bryderon allanol.
"Mae angen i ni fynd i'r afael â'r bwlch sgiliau ym maes adeiladu, rhywbeth y gellir ei gyflawni trwy sicrhau bod pob athro yn gwybod am y dulliau diweddaraf ac yn deall yr heriau sy'n wynebu'r sector. Bydd hyn yn helpu i baratoi'r genhedlaeth nesaf o adeiladwyr wrth iddynt ymuno â'r gweithlu. Yn ogystal, dylem fod yn galluogi mwy o fenywod i deimlo'n hyderus i ddilyn gyrfaoedd ym maes adeiladu a chwalu unrhyw rwystrau sy'n bodoli.
"Roedd yn gyfarfod gwych, ac edrychaf ymlaen at gydweithio â'r Gymdeithas i gefnogi'r sector yn y dyfodol."
