With this week seeing the international day of older persons, Janet Finch-Saunders, Assembly Member for Aberconwy, Shadow Minister for Older People, and Welsh Conservative’s Older People’s Champion, has joined in the launch of the Older People’s Commissioner’s latest report and is taking action to help ensure that residents are empowered.

The report launched is the State of the Nation: An overview of growing older in Wales. Its aim is to bring together available data and provide an analysis to further our understanding of what we need to do to make Wales the best place in the world to grow older.

After the launch of the report and participating in the cross-party panel, Janet said:

“It was a pleasure joining with the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales, Heléna Herklots CBE, to launch her striking report.

“This will help our tireless efforts to ensure that older people are not rendered invisible to policy and decision makers.

“Key areas where support is required have been identified, including the need to end ageism and age discrimination, stop abuse of older people, and help everyone to age well.

“Conwy is central to this work as the report acknowledges that we have the highest percentage of older people aged 65 or over in Wales.

“I believe in empowering older people to effect change, so am working to achieve the aim.

“This is one reason why I am hosting my annual Ageing Well event on 25 October 2019 so to help ensure that my constituents know what support is available and about the work I am undertaking so to help add life to years, not just years to life”.
