Ty Gobaith

During Hospice Care Week pressure has been placed on the Welsh Government to provide more support to Tŷ Gobaith in 2020/21.  These calls are being led by Janet Finch-Saunders, Assembly Member for Aberconwy, and Shadow Minister for Children, following her learning that the organisation only receives one month’s income from statutory sources.

Following the special hospice event in the Senedd, Janet said:

“It was my pleasure to have the opportunity to meet with Eluned and Kate during Hospice Care Week.

“The care and support provided by Tŷ Gobaith is invaluable to children and young people with life limiting conditions, and their friends and family.

“In fact, Hope House Children’s Hospices should be proud that they were able to support more than 750 local families.

“All of this comes at a major cost: £6.5 million annually.

“The reality of the situation is that only one month’s income comes from statutory sources, meaning that the hospice is dependent on donations for 11 months of a year.

“For such an important service to be so dependent on your generosity is worrying, so I will be looking to see if any further support can be provided to Tŷ Gobaith by the Welsh Government”.

Written Assembly Question to Vaughan Gething AM, Minister for Health and Social Services:

Following the finding that Tŷ Gobaith is dependent on public support to run their services for 11 months a year, will the Welsh Government explain what support it currently provides and whether this will improve in 2020/21?
