Shadow Climate Change Minister support kitchen creativity campaign to minimise festive food waste

Speaking over the festive season, the Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has thrown her support behind the Love Food Hate Waste campaign which is asking residents to be creative in the kitchen to minimise waste.

It comes as respondents to a recent survey said they expect to throw away around seven kilos of food, which equates to a staggering 194,600 tonnes of waste nationwide. Cuts of turkey and ham, Brussels sprouts, roast potatoes and pigs-in-blankets are among the foods expected to be thrown away.

“This Christmas, I’m delighted to be supporting the work of Love Food Hate Waste, which is asking us all to be a little more creative in the kitchen to ensure that our waste is minimised.

“Whilst I know it can often get busy and chaotic with all the preparations and activities going on, if we take a second to be slightly more reflective, our impact on the planet can be minimised.

“This means planning ahead, building in flexibility and using up leftovers through delicious winter warmers. And we can always donate unopened food and look to create compost with the scraps. So, let’s come together this Christmas and be more mindful when it comes to food waste.”
