Passengers on the Core Valley Line faced severe cancellations and delays this Saturday due to damage to one of the pantographs on the new tram-trains. These disruptions continued into the following day.
This caused concern among passengers, leading some to abandon their journeys and return home, while others resorted to private taxis.
Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Senedd for Bangor, Conwy and Môn, and the Welsh Conservatives’ Shadow Cabinet Minister for Enterprise, Connectivity and Energy, commented:
“It is deeply concerning to see this sort of damage occurring to the new tram-trains that run on the Core Valley Line, which is under the control of the Welsh Government. This naturally raises serious questions about the condition of the trains.”
Janet added:
“One user informed me that there was also an issue with a lack of communication during the delays, with the notice boards only being updated occasionally. This left many rail users unsure of what to do next.”
Janet continued:
“I call on the Deputy Minister for Transport to work with Transport for Wales to undertake a review of the new tram-trains to help prevent incidents like this from happening again. We must be proactive when it comes to ensuring the resilience of our trains.”
