Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has spoken out again about the “scandalous and deeply distressing” delays within some morgues in the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board,

For several months, Mrs Finch-Saunders has raised concerns with the executive team at the Health Board that it is sometimes taking over a month for the bodies of the deceased to be discharged to undertakers.

Despite repeatedly challenging the Health Board on the case, the Member understands from a number of individuals working in the funeral sector that the mortuaries at Ysbyty Gwynedd and Glan Clwyd are full.

Commenting on this crisis, Janet said:

“This scandalous and deeply distressing crisis is not being handled professionally. For months the Health Board has been aware that it is sometimes taking over a month to release bodies of the deceased, yet no tangible progress has been made.

“The distress caused to loved ones, who cannot see the body of the late friend and or relative, is unimaginable.

“I understand that the Medical Examiner Service is causing the delay. However, the most important point here is that there has been a failure by the Health Board and the Welsh Government to work effectively to stop this immoral crisis.

“What is going on is wrong. That it has been allowed to go on for this long is wrong. This needs to be addressed urgently. Such action is the humane thing to do”.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, AS Aberconwy, wedi siarad eto am yr oedi gwarthus a gofidus iawn o fewn rhai corffdai ym Mwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr.

Ers sawl mis bellach, mae Mrs Finch-Saunders wedi codi pryderon gyda thîm gweithredol y Bwrdd Iechyd ei bod weithiau'n cymryd dros fis i gyrff yr ymadawedig gael eu rhyddhau i ymgymerwyr.

Er gwaethaf herio'r Bwrdd Iechyd dro ar ôl tro, mae'r Aelod yn deall gan nifer o unigolion sy'n gweithio yn y sector angladdau bod y corffdai yn Ysbyty Gwynedd a Glan Clwyd yn llawn dop.

Wrth sôn am yr argyfwng hwn, dywedodd Janet:

“Dydy’r argyfwng gwarthus a gofidus hwn ddim yn cael ei drin yn broffesiynol. Ers misoedd, mae'r Bwrdd Iechyd yn gwybod ei bod hi'n cymryd dros fis weithiau i ryddhau cyrff yr ymadawedig, ond does dim cynnydd pendant wedi'i wneud.

“Alla i ddim dychmygu'r gofid sy’n wynebu anwyliaid sy'n methu gweld corff eu diweddar ffrind neu berthynas.

“Rwy'n deall mai Gwasanaeth yr Archwilydd Meddygol sy’n achosi'r oedi. Fodd bynnag, y pwynt pwysicaf yma yw methiant y Bwrdd Iechyd a Llywodraeth Cymru i weithio'n effeithiol i atal yr argyfwng anfoesol hwn.

“Mae'r hyn sy'n digwydd yn gwbl anghywir. Mae'r ffaith fod y sefyllfa hon wedi para cyhyd yn gwbl anghywir. Mae angen mynd i'r afael â'r mater ar fyrder. Dyna'r peth trugarog i'w wneud”.
