Royal Mail Apologises for Llandudno Mail Delays/Y Post Brenhinol yn ymddiheuro am oedi gyda phost Llandudno

Yesterday, Royal Mail apologised to the residents of Llandudno, who have been experiencing serious delays in receiving their letters, some of which are extremely important, such as Welsh NHS appointments.

The reason provided for the delay, according to a Royal Mail spokesperson, is that the unit has experienced high levels of sickness absence, which has put pressure on deliveries. However, questions must be raised as to why circumstances like this were not prepared for in advance.

Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, raised awareness of the serious delays at the Royal Mail sorting office last week, after viewing footage provided by a whistle-blower, or whistle-blowers.

Commenting on the apology from Royal Mail, Janet said:

“I welcome Royal Mail’s apology and explanation. However, serious questions need to be raised and investigated regarding how the unit was allowed to reach this level of delay, as well as the impact on residents who are not receiving important correspondence, such as hospital appointment letters.

“Lessons can be learned to ensure that situations like this are better prepared for in the future, and that the mail service is able to function at normal levels.

“I would like to once again commend the whistle-blower,  or whistle-blowers,  who brought this issue to my attention. However, it shouldn’t have taken their courage and my campaign to make the Royal Mail improve the standard of service”.

Ddoe, ymddiheurodd y Post Brenhinol i drigolion Llandudno, sydd wedi bod yn wynebu oedi difrifol wrth dderbyn eu llythyrau, rhai ohonyn nhw’n hynod bwysig, fel apwyntiadau GIG Cymru.

Y rheswm a roddwyd dros yr oedi, yn ôl llefarydd ar ran y Post Brenhinol, yw bod yr uned wedi profi lefelau uchel o absenoldeb salwch, sydd wedi rhoi pwysau ar wasanaethau dosbarthu. Fodd bynnag, rhaid gofyn pam nad oedd wedi paratoi ymlaen llaw am amgylchiadau o’r fath.

Cododd Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, ymwybyddiaeth o'r oedi difrifol yn swyddfa ddidoli'r Post Brenhinol yr wythnos diwethaf, ar ôl gweld fideo a ddarparwyd gan chwythwr neu chwythwyr chwiban.

Wrth sôn am yr ymddiheuriad gan y Post Brenhinol, dywedodd Janet:

"Rwy'n croesawu ymddiheuriad ac esboniad y Post Brenhinol. Fodd bynnag, mae angen codi a gofyn cwestiynau difrifol ynglŷn â sut y caniatawyd i'r uned gyrraedd y lefel hon o oedi, yn ogystal â'r effaith ar drigolion na chawson nhw cael ohebiaeth bwysig, fel llythyrau apwyntiadau ysbyty.

"Mae modd dysgu gwersi i sicrhau eu bod yn paratoi'n well ar gyfer sefyllfaoedd fel hyn yn y dyfodol, a bod y gwasanaeth post yn gallu gweithredu ar lefelau arferol.

"Hoffwn ganmol y chwythwr neu’r chwythwyr chwiban, a ddaeth â'r mater hwn i'm sylw. Fodd bynnag, ni ddylai fod wedi cymryd eu dewrder nhw a'm hymgyrch i wneud i'r Post Brenhinol wella safon y gwasanaeth".
