Janet Finch-Saunders MS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, is encouraging residents to respond to the survey being undertaken by RWE Renewables (RWE) so to establish how Awel y Môr could best support communities and what the overall guiding principles for a community benefits package should be.

The survey can be accessed here.

Awel y Môr is a project being developed by RWE to the west of the existing Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm. It is located approximately 10.5km off the Welsh coast in the Irish Sea, with a maximum total area of 88km.

Commenting after submitting a letter full of ideas as to how RWE could possibly support communities in Aberconwy, Janet said:

“Should this renewable energy scheme go ahead, we need to ensure that the community benefit package is targeted at the clubs, organisations, facilities, and communities most in need of support in Aberconwy.

“As I have made clear in my submission, RWE could have the opportunity to spearhead the battle against climate change in Aberconwy by investing in coastal and Conwy Valley flood risk reduction measures, and publicly accessible electric vehicle charging points across our towns and rural communities.

“Similarly, there are playgrounds, sporting clubs, and charities that would truly benefit from investment.

“I have presented a number of ideas but been clear that RWE should take heed of the suggestions and recommendations offered by residents of Aberconwy and North Wales, so please do have your say”.

Letter from Janet Finch-Saunders MS to RWE

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders AS Aberconwy yn annog trigolion i ymateb i'r arolwg sy'n cael ei gynnal gan RWE Renewables (RWE) er mwyn penderfynu ar y ffordd orau o gefnogi cymunedau a beth ddylai'r egwyddorion arweiniol cyffredinol fod ar gyfer pecyn buddion cymunedol.

Gallwch lenwi'r arolwg yma.

Mae prosiect Awel y Môr yn cael ei ddatblygu gan RWE i'r gorllewin o fferm wynt ar y môr bresennol Gwynt y Môr. Fe'i lleolir tua 10.5km oddi ar arfordir y Gogledd ym Môr Iwerddon, gyda chyfanswm arwynebedd o 88km ar y mwyaf.

Meddai Janet, ar ôl cyflwyno llythyr yn llawn syniadau am sut y gallai RWE gefnogi cymunedau Aberconwy:

“Pe bai'r cynllun ynni adnewyddadwy hwn yn mynd rhagddo, mae angen i ni sicrhau bod y pecyn buddion  cymunedol yn cael ei dargedu at y clybiau, y sefydliadau, y cyfleusterau a'r cymunedau sydd angen y cymorth mwyaf yma yn Aberconwy.

“Fel yr eglurais yn fy nghyflwyniad i'r cwmni, gallai RWE fanteisio ar y cyfle i arwain y frwydr yn erbyn newid hinsawdd yn Aberconwy drwy fuddsoddi mewn mesurau lleihau perygl llifogydd ar hyd yr arfordir ac yn Nyffryn Conwy, a phwyntiau gwefru cerbydau trydan sy'n hygyrch ar hyd a lled ein cymunedau trefol a gwledig.

“Hefyd, byddai meysydd chwarae, clybiau chwaraeon ac elusennau yn elwa ar fuddsoddiad.

“Rwyf wedi cyflwyno nifer o syniadau ond yn gwbl argyhoeddedig y dylai RWE gymryd sylw o'r awgrymiadau a'r argymhellion a gynigir gan drigolion Aberconwy a'r Gogledd, felly cofiwch ddweud eich dweud".
