Remembrance Sunday is always a poignant day that enables us to pay tribute to and remember those who have served and lost their lives in service to our nation. This year was even more significant as we marked the 80th anniversaries of VE Day and VJ Day.

Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, who had wreaths laid in Llandudno, Conwy, and Llanrwst, commented:

“Remembrance Sunday offers us the chance to pause and remember those who have served in all wars, as well as those who are currently serving. These brave servicemen and women put their lives on the line, and in many instances made the ultimate sacrifice in order to protect the freedoms we enjoy.

“Across the country, people have gathered to lay wreaths and pay tribute. In Wales alone, 15,000 Welshmen were killed during the Second World War, and around 35,000 Welsh men and women died in the First World War, many of whom were shockingly young when they lost their lives, such as one young man from Llandudno who was only 17 years old.

“It was an honour to have wreaths laid in Llandudno, Conwy, and Llanrwst, as we should always express our gratitude to those who have served and those who are currently serving.

“My sincere thanks go to the organisers of all services across Aberconwy. Their efforts enabled thousands to come out so to remember collectively”.

Mae Sul y Cofio bob amser yn ddiwrnod arbennig sy'n rhoi cyfle i ni dalu teyrnged i'r rhai sydd wedi gwasanaethu a cholli eu bywydau dros eu cenedl. Roedd eleni hyd yn oed yn fwy arwyddocaol wrth i ni nodi 80 mlynedd ers Diwrnod VE a Diwrnod VJ.

Meddai Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, a drefnodd dorchau yn Llandudno, Conwy a Llanrwst:

"Mae Sul y Cofio yn cynnig cyfle i ni oedi a chofio'r rhai sydd wedi gwasanaethu ym mhob rhyfel, yn ogystal â'r rhai sy'n gwasanaethu ar hyn o bryd. Mae'r dynion a'r menywod dewr hyn yn rhoi eu bywydau yn y fantol, ac mewn llawer o achosion yn gwneud yr aberth eithaf er mwyn amddiffyn y rhyddid rydyn ni’n ei fwynhau.

"Ledled y wlad, mae pobl wedi ymgynnull i osod torchau a thalu teyrnged. Yng Nghymru yn unig, lladdwyd 15,000 o Gymry yn ystod yr Ail Ryfel Byd, a bu farw tua 35,000 o ddynion a menywod o Gymru yn y Rhyfel Byd Cyntaf. Roedd llawer ohonyn nhw’n ifanc iawn pan gollon nhw eu bywydau, fel un dyn ifanc o Landudno a fu farw yn 17 oed.

"Roedd hi’n anrhydedd gweld torchau yn cael eu gosod yn Llandudno, Conwy a Llanrwst, gan y dylem bob amser fynegi ein diolchgarwch i'r rhai sydd wedi gwasanaethu a'r rhai sy'n gwasanaethu ar hyn o bryd.

"Diolch yn fawr iawn i drefnwyr yr holl wasanaethau ledled Aberconwy. Diolch i’w hymdrechion nhw, roedd modd i filoedd ddod allan i gofio gyda'i gilydd".
