Last Friday, Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, held a public meeting at Llandudno Town Hall. The meeting offered an excellent opportunity for residents to attend and voice their concerns.
Janet thanked residents, the Mayor, Cllr Antony Bartola, the Police, Cllr Jackie Thurley and Cllr Harry Saville for attending, commenting:
“Public meetings are a brilliant opportunity for us, as elected officials, to hear directly from our residents about the issues that are impacting them, such as anti-social behaviour, council tax increases, and poor access to GP appointments.
“Serious concerns were raised about anti-social behaviour, with residents reporting the constant smell of drugs in certain areas, and gatherings of people that cause intimidation. This is unacceptable, and the Police offered guidance on how residents can report these instances, such as though the webchat, and encouraged residents to engage with their local PCSOs.
“It is important that when residents, are concerned with anti-social behaviour, that they report it to the police. As Sargeant Cassidy rightly highlighted that it is by building a series of events, that the police are able to take more specific, informed, and direct action. So, I highly encourage you to report these instances that you witness to the police.
“This meeting also highlighted the serious issue of the backlog in business rates relief being provided to our vital holiday lets that have been able to reach the 182-day threshold. Which is leaving our hardworking businesses worse off financially, and just hoping they will get a full rebate. This should not be an experience of those who are working hard, and able to hit the targets set. This needs to be urgently addressed, and our tourism and hospitality sector must be supported, not hindered.
“I would like to thank everyone who attended the meeting, including the Mayor, Cllr Antony Bartola, Inspector Mathew Kelly-Smith, Sergeant Paul Cassidy, and Cllr Harry Saville, for attending and providing guidance and advice to our residents. It was a very successful public meeting, and I look forward to addressing the challenges raised.”
