Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Senedd for Aberconwy and Shadow Minister for Climate Change, has welcomed the exciting news that an international consortium led by DST Innovations, have proposed the Blue Eden project, which would see:

  • 1,000 jobs created making high tech batteries for energy storage
  • construction of a floating solar energy farm
  • a large data centre powered by an uninterruptable source of renewable energy
  • heat generated by the computer servers in the centre used in 5,000 new eco-homes
  • the opening of an oceanic and climate change research centre and 150 floating houses.

Commenting on the project, Janet said:

“The UK Government was clear in the Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution that the ambition was to create the conditions for the private sector to invest with confidence, unleashing the unique creativity of capitalism to generate and grow new green industries.

“This project, which could support around 16,000 jobs across the Swansea Bay city region, create green energy, and thousands of eco-homes, is an exciting opportunity for Swansea Bay, Wales, and the world.

“It seems that not a single penny of taxpayers’ money would be needed, so I hope that this model might be emulated across the UK, and help generate an even bigger step towards achieving net-zero”.
