Cllr Janet Finch-Saunders AM today welcomed the staging of a two-day Speech and Language Therapy event at Glyndwr University due to take place next week.

The event is designed to promote and celebrate the services available to children and young people who have speech, language and communication problems in North Wales.

Commenting on the event, Janet said: "I am delighted that speech and language therapy is getting such high recognition, this celebratory event is a wonderful idea.

"Communication is at the heart of everything we do and it is essential that children are given the best possible start in this area to ensure a bright future. Delayed language skills can impact negatively on learning and building relationships and, if therapy is unavailable may cause problems in later life – both socially and in the workplace.

"Clearly, there are huge benefits to be gained by the community as a whole by the provision of these services by the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board."

Janet is due to meet with the Department for Children’s Services in Conwy County Borough Council next week to discuss resources for speech therapy in her constituency of Aberconwy.

[ Speech and Language Therapists from the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board are staging a two day event at Glyndwr University, Wrexham on 21st and 22nd September.

The event is being run in partnership with Afasic (the national organisation which provides advice and support for children with these needs and their families), to tie in with the Communication Trust’s national Hello Campaign. ]
