Labour’s Cardiff bickering is ‘hugely damaging’

Continuing chaos and bickering within Cardiff council’s ruling Labour group is hugely damaging and detrimental to the prospects of hardworking families.

That’s the message from Welsh Conservatives, as further evidence of huge rifts emerge ahead of a no confidence vote in the council leader this week.

Leaked emails have already highlighted the problems and infighting at the core of the Labour party in the city.

In further correspondence revealed today - a former leader of the Labour group, Ralph Cook, asks the current leader to resign.

South Wales Central Assembly Member and Welsh Conservative Leader, Andrew RT Davies AM, said:

“As our capital city, Cardiff holds huge importance to Wales’ economy.

“The bickering we continue to see at the heart of the city’s council is hugely damaging to the prospects of hardworking families.

“It is securing frontline services and boosting economic growth that mean most to every taxpayer in the city, yet it is squabbling and infighting that continue to dominate at County Hall.

“It’s about time Labour sorted its problems out and got on with the day job of improving peoples’ lives.”

Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Local Government, Janet Finch-Saunders AM, said:

“This chaos and confusion is symptomatic of Labour’s leadership within local government right across Wales.

“Cardiff is Wales’ capital city. It has a huge say in economic growth and, at 12, has the most staff earning over a hundred grand in any Welsh council. Yet its’ ruling group is in complete and utter disarray.

“Taxpayers deserve better. Frontline services should be top of the agenda, not frontline political warfare.”
