Following serious concerns having been raised about the future of some post offices in Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders MS is taking a series of actions so to help safeguard their future.

The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy has written to the Royal Mail, requesting a review of its marketing strategy so that they are encouraging customers to buy their postage in post offices.

A letter has also been sent to the Post Office, which highlights numerous matters that are having a detrimental impact on the viability of some local post offices, including:

- a contract change which means that there is no salary for postmasters;

- the transition to paying vehicle tax online (one store has seen a drop from 250 to 6);

- and the collapse in the number of people collecting pensions in person (one store only has 6 residents collecting pensions).

Commenting after writing to the two organisations, Janet said:

“Post offices are cornerstones of our communities that are now facing an uncertain future.

“Since the pandemic, some stores have recorded substantial drops in customers, with many now even buying stamps online.

“Whilst I have asked the Royal Mail and Post Office to take action to help safeguard the future of local stores, the reality is that we all must use it or lose it.

“Wherever you are in Aberconwy, if you want your post office to remain open, please consider going in to pay for your vehicle registration, pay for parcel postage, and buy some of the variety or products the shops have on sale”.

ENDS

Ar ôl i bryderon difrifol gael eu mynegi am ddyfodol rhai swyddfeydd post yn Aberconwy, mae Janet Finch-Saunders AS yn cymryd cyfres o gamau er mwyn helpu i’w diogelu.

Mae’r Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy wedi ysgrifennu at y Post Brenhinol, yn gofyn iddyn nhw adolygu eu strategaeth farchnata er mwyn annog cwsmeriaid i brynu eu stampiau mewn swyddfeydd post.

Mae llythyr hefyd wedi’i anfon i Swyddfa’r Post, sy’n tynnu sylw at nifer o faterion sy’n cael effaith niweidiol ar hyfywedd rhai swyddfeydd post lleol, gan gynnwys:

- newid contract sy’n golygu nad oes cyflog i bostfeistri;

- newid i dalu treth cerbyd ar-lein (gwelodd un siop ostyngiad o 250 i 6);

- a’r gostyngiad anferth yn nifer y bobl sy’n casglu pensiynau yn bersonol (dim ond 6 o drigolion sy’n casglu eu pensiynau mewn un swyddfa bost).

Wrth wneud sylw ar ôl llythyru, dywedodd Janet:

“Mae swyddfeydd post yn gonglfeini i’n cymunedau sydd bellach yn wynebu dyfodol ansicr.

“Ers y pandemig, mae rhai swyddfeydd wedi gweld gostyngiad sylweddol o ran cwsmeriaid, gyda llawer o bobl hyd yn oed yn prynu stampiau ar-lein bellach.

“Er fy mod wedi gofyn i’r Post Brenhinol a Swyddfa’r Post weithredu i helpu i ddiogelu dyfodol siopau lleol, y gwir amdani yw bod yn rhaid i bob un ohonon ni wneud defnydd ohonyn nhw neu wneud hebddyn nhw.

“Ble bynnag rydych chi yn Aberconwy, os ydych chi eisiau i’ch swyddfa bost aros ar agor, ystyriwch fynd i mewn i dalu am gofrestru eich cerbyd, talu am bostio parseli, a phrynu ychydig o’r cynnyrch amrywiol sydd gan y siopau ar werth”.
