Since Monday 29 September the Conwy Valley railway line has been closed so that Network Rail can remove all high-risk trees from beside the tracks so to reduce the chances of closure of the route in future.

Network Rail have advised that works will now continue until Sunday 26 October with buses replacing trains during that time.

Commenting on the works, Janet said:

“I welcome Network Rail’s proactive approach to the upkeep of the Conwy Valley Railway Line.

“Bearing in mind that the line has had to be closed for over 500 days over the last 10 years due to storms and high winds, all investment in improving resilience is to be welcomed.

“With both Network Rail and Transport for Wales now actively taking steps to improve the line for our community I am positive that it can play an even more important role for locals and tourists going forward”.

Ers dydd Llun 29 Medi mae rheilffordd Dyffryn Conwy wedi bod ar gau fel y gall Network Rail gael gwared ar yr holl goed risg uchel wrth ymyl y cledrau er mwyn lleihau'r siawns y bydd rhaid cau'r rheilffordd yn y dyfodol.

Mae Network Rail wedi cynghori y bydd y gwaith nawr yn parhau tan ddydd Sul 26 Hydref gyda bysiau yn cymryd lle trenau yn ystod y cyfnod hwnnw.

Gan gyfeirio at y gwaith, dywedodd Janet:

"Rwy'n croesawu’r ffaith bod Network Rail yn mynd ati’n rhagweithiol i gynnal a chadw Rheilffordd Dyffryn Conwy.

"O gofio bod y llinell wedi gorfod bod ar gau am 500 diwrnod a mwy dros y 10 mlynedd diwethaf oherwydd stormydd a gwyntoedd uchel, mae pob buddsoddiad mewn gwella gwydnwch i'w groesawu.

"Gyda Network Rail a Thrafnidiaeth Cymru bellach yn cymryd camau gweithredol i wella'r rheilffordd i'n cymuned, rwy'n ffyddiog y gall chwarae rôl bwysicach fyth i bobl leol a thwristiaid yn y dyfodol".
