In August, the Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, Rebecca Evans MS, gave approval to the Alaw Môn Solar Farm on Ynys Môn. This was despite opposition from residents, elected members, and Anglesey County Council.
It was subsequently announced that councillors on Anglesey County Council have backed plans to launch a judicial review of the Welsh Government’s decision.
Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, challenged the Cabinet Secretary on the proposal and highlighted that it has ridden roughshod over the voices of the community.
Commenting on the Alaw Môn Solar Farm, Janet said:
“It is important that the voices of the community are heard. By allowing this decision to go ahead, the Cabinet Secretary will not only have ignored the voices of the local community, but also those of elected Members in the Senedd and on Anglesey County Council. This is unacceptable and represents a democratic deficit.
“This solar farm will result in the loss of prime agricultural land, as the panels are set to be installed across 660 acres. While we are all supportive of renewable energy, this cannot come at the expense of our agricultural sector and food security.
“I welcome the plans for a judicial review and strongly urge the Welsh Government to reverse this disastrous decision.”

Ym mis Awst, rhoddodd Ysgrifennydd y Cabinet dros yr Economi, Ynni a Chynllunio, Rebecca Evans AS, gymeradwyaeth i Fferm Solar Alaw Môn ar Ynys Môn. Roedd hyn er gwaethaf gwrthwynebiad gan drigolion, aelodau etholedig a Chyngor Sir Ynys Môn.
Cyhoeddwyd wedyn bod cynghorwyr Cyngor Sir Ynys Môn wedi cefnogi cynlluniau i lansio adolygiad barnwrol o benderfyniad Llywodraeth Cymru.
Heriodd Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, Ysgrifennydd y Cabinet ar y cynnig a thynnu sylw at y ffaith ei fod wedi anwybyddu lleisiau'r gymuned.
Wrth sôn am Fferm Solar Alaw Môn, dywedodd Janet:
"Mae'n bwysig bod lleisiau'r gymuned yn cael eu clywed. Trwy ganiatáu i'r penderfyniad hwn fynd rhagddo, bydd Ysgrifennydd y Cabinet nid yn unig wedi anwybyddu lleisiau'r gymuned leol, ond hefyd leisiau'r Aelodau etholedig yn y Senedd ac ar Gyngor Sir Ynys Môn. Mae hyn yn annerbyniol ac yn cynrychioli diffyg democrataidd.
"Bydd y fferm solar hon yn arwain at golli tir amaethyddol da, gan fod y paneli i’w gosod ar draws 660 erw. Er ein bod ni i gyd yn cefnogi ynni adnewyddadwy, ni all hyn ddod ar draul ein sector amaethyddol a diogeledd bwyd.
"Rwy'n croesawu'r cynlluniau ar gyfer adolygiad barnwrol ac yn annog Llywodraeth Cymru i wrthdroi'r penderfyniad trychinebus hwn."
