Janet Finch-Saunders MS/AS.

The Public Service Ombudsman for Wales has recently published statistics on complaints handled by Health Boards in Wales during 2022-2023. They received 19,000 complaints – equivalent to 6 complaints for every 1,000 residents of Wales.

The Ombudsman is an independent organisation appointed to look into complaints about companies and organisations. You can complain to them if you have already raised concerns with the relevant organisation and your problem was not resolved through their complaints procedure.

You can access the report here.

Speaking on this issue, Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Senedd for Aberconwy, said:

“19,000 is a very concerning number of complaints.

“For records to show that complaint volumes have remained stable for health boards in general compared to the previous year, highlights a lack of progress in bringing numbers down.

“It is essential that the Minister for Health and Social Services, the Ombudsman, and Health Boards, cooperate so to ensure that lessons are learnt so that less people feel the need to complain.”

Mae Ombwdsmon Gwasanaethau Cyhoeddus Cymru wedi cyhoeddi ystadegau’n ddiweddar ar gwynion am Fyrddau Iechyd Cymru yn ystod 2022-2023. Cafwyd 19,000 o gwynion i gyd - sy'n cyfateb i 6 o gwynion ar gyfer pob 1,000 o drigolion Cymru.

Mae'r Ombwdsmon yn sefydliad annibynnol a benodwyd i ymchwilio i gwynion am gwmnïau a sefydliadau. Gallwch gwyno wrtho os ydych chi eisoes wedi codi pryderon gyda'r sefydliad perthnasol ac na chafodd eich problem ei datrys drwy eu gweithdrefn gwyno.

Wrth siarad am y mater, dywedodd Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy:

“Mae 19,000 yn nifer pryderus iawn o gwynion.

“Mae'r ffaith bod cofnodion yn dangos bod nifer y cwynion wedi parhau'n sefydlog i fyrddau iechyd yn gyffredinol o'i gymharu â'r flwyddyn flaenorol, yn tynnu sylw at ddiffyg cynnydd o ran lleihau niferoedd.

“Mae'n hollbwysig bod y Gweinidog Iechyd a Gwasanaethau Cymdeithasol, yr Ombwdsmon, a'r Byrddau Iechyd, yn cydweithredu er mwyn sicrhau bod gwersi'n cael eu dysgu fel bod llai o bobl yn teimlo'r angen i gwyno.”
