This week, the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales released a report highlighting the growing pressures facing older people across Wales and the wider UK, outlining the scale and impact of rising poverty.

The report draws on the latest data, statistics, and personal testimonies to shed light on the challenges experienced later in life, emphasising the urgent need to address these issues to prevent significant harm to individuals and to society as a whole.

A key finding in the report is the need for increased local funding to help identify older people who may be missing out on financial support, and to ensure they receive the advice and assistance needed to claim the benefits to which they are entitled.

Janet commented:

“The report from the Older People’s Commissioner highlights extremely serious issues currently affecting older people across Wales.

The pressures faced later in life, from fuel poverty to limited access to financial support, impact not only the individuals experiencing these challenges but entire communities.

As I have stated before, and as the report makes clear, we must see increased funding and support for local authorities so they can address this urgent issue and ensure our older generation receives the care and assistance they deserve in their later years.”

Yr wythnos hon, rhyddhaodd Comisiynydd Pobl Hŷn Cymru adroddiad yn tynnu sylw at y pwysau cynyddol sy'n wynebu pobl hŷn ledled Cymru a'r DU ehangach, gan amlinellu maint ac effaith tlodi cynyddol.

Mae'r adroddiad yn tynnu ar y data, yr ystadegau a’r dystiolaeth bersonol ddiweddaraf i daflu goleuni ar yr heriau a brofir yn ddiweddarach mewn bywyd, gan bwysleisio'r angen brys i fynd i'r afael â'r materion hyn er mwyn atal niwed sylweddol i unigolion ac i’r gymdeithas gyfan.

Un o ganfyddiadau allweddol yr adroddiad yw'r angen am fwy o gyllid lleol i helpu i adnabod pobl hŷn a allai fod yn colli allan ar gymorth ariannol, ac i sicrhau eu bod yn cael y cyngor a'r cymorth sydd eu hangen i hawlio'r budd-daliadau y mae ganddyn nhw hawl iddyn nhw.

Meddai Janet:

"Mae'r adroddiad gan y Comisiynydd Pobl Hŷn yn tynnu sylw at faterion difrifol iawn sy'n effeithio ar bobl hŷn ledled Cymru ar hyn o bryd.

Mae’r pwysau maen nhw’n ei wynebu yn ddiweddarach mewn bywyd, o dlodi tanwydd i fynediad cyfyngedig at gymorth ariannol, nid yn unig yn effeithio ar yr unigolion sy'n profi'r heriau hyn ond ar gymunedau cyfan hefyd.

Fel rydw i wedi dweud o'r blaen, ac fel mae'r adroddiad yn ei ddatgan yn glir, mae'n rhaid rhoi mwy o gyllid a chymorth i awdurdodau lleol fel y gallan nhw fynd i'r afael â'r mater brys hwn a sicrhau bod ein cenhedlaeth hŷn yn cael y gofal a'r cymorth maen nhw’n ei haeddu yn ddiweddarach mewn bywyd."
