Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Senedd for Bangor, Conwy and Môn, is calling on the Council Leader Councillor Julie Fallon, to step in to ensure that Ysgol Betws-y-Coed does not close, and on residents to object to the closure.
The formal objection period against the closure of Ysgol Betws-y-Coed closes tomorrow, Tuesday 21 July 2026. It is vital that residents submit their views and objections to the proposal.
This can be done by using:
· The online form: https://conwy-self.achieveservice.com/en/service/Proposal_to_close_Ysgol_Betws_y_Coed
· Or by emailing your objections to: [email protected]
Janet commented:
"The closure of Ysgol Betws-y-Coed will be devastating for our community, the Welsh language, and access to education. The consultation process found that pupils are concerned about the changes to their routines and the support network that has been built at the school. Some children could face journeys of up to half an hour to reach Ysgol Capel Garmon.
"On many occasions, I have spoken about the detrimental impact of closing our rural schools, as it can affect pupils' learning and add to the sense of isolation.
"I have submitted my firm objection to the closure, both at this stage and during the original consultation, highlighting the significant impact this will have on our community. I strongly encourage everyone, especially those in the local area, to object to this closure and make their views heard."

"Bydd cau Ysgol Betws-y-coed yn ddinistriol i'n cymuned, i’r Gymraeg, ac i fynediad at addysg. Canfu'r broses ymgynghori fod disgyblion yn poeni am y newidiadau i'w trefn a'r rhwydwaith cymorth sydd wedi'i adeiladu yn yr ysgol. Gallai rhai plant wynebu teithiau o hyd at hanner awr i gyrraedd Ysgol Capel Garmon.
"Ar sawl achlysur, rydw i wedi siarad am effaith niweidiol cau ein hysgolion gwledig, oherwydd gall hyn effeithio ar ddysgu disgyblion ac ychwanegu at eu hymdeimlad o ynysigrwydd.
"Rydw i wedi cyflwyno fy ngwrthwynebiad cadarn i'r cau, ar y pwynt hwn ac yn ystod yr ymgynghoriad gwreiddiol, gan dynnu sylw at yr effaith sylweddol y bydd hyn yn ei chael ar ein cymuned. Rwy'n annog pawb, yn enwedig y rhai yn yr ardal leol, i wrthwynebu'r cau hwn a mynnu bod eu barn yn cael ei chlywed."
