Yesterday, it was reported that Natural Resources Wales has requested the public not to bathe or paddle at West Shore due to high levels of intestinal Enterococci found in a recent water sample.
This is extremely concerning, as in the five weeks leading up to this, there had been 13 pollution alerts issued for West Shore Beach. Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, is deeply concerned about these frequent pollution alerts and has written to Natural Resources Wales, the Cabinet Secretary and Dŵr Cymru, outlining the issues and highlighting how unacceptable the conditions are.
Commenting on the latest pollution alert, Janet said:
“The fact that this is the fourteenth pollution alert in six weeks is absolutely shocking.
“West Shore is a very popular beach that attracts many visitors and locals every day. These announcements are extremely concerning, especially during a heatwave and the school summer holidays, which naturally increase the number of people heading to the beach.
“Leaks like this are a serious public health concern and cannot be allowed to continue. Today, I have written to the Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs Huw Irranca-Davies MS, along with Dŵr Cymru and its CEO, Peter Perry, requesting that urgent action is taken to prevent any more of these spills. It is completely unacceptable and puts the health of the public in Llandudno at risk.
“I would also like to thank Cllr Harry Saville for alerting us and residents of Llandudno on this latest alert”.

Ddoe, adroddwyd bod Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru wedi gofyn i'r cyhoedd osgoi mynd i’r môr wrth Draeth Pen Morfa Llandudno oherwydd lefelau uchel o Enterococci y coluddyn a ganfuwyd mewn sampl dŵr diweddar.
Mae'n newyddion pryderus dros ben, gan fod 13 rhybudd llygredd wedi'u cyhoeddi ar gyfer Traeth Pen Morfa yn y pum wythnos flaenorol. Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, AS Aberconwy, yn bryderus iawn am y rhybuddion llygredd mynych hyn ac wedi ysgrifennu at Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru, Ysgrifennydd y Cabinet a Dŵr Cymru, yn amlinellu'r problemau ac yn tynnu sylw at ba mor annerbyniol yw'r amodau.
Wrth ymateb i'r rhybudd llygredd diweddaraf, dywedodd Janet:
“Mae'r ffaith mai dyma’r 14 rhybudd llygredd mewn chwe wythnos yn ddychrynllyd.
“Mae Traeth Pen Morfa yn lle poblogaidd dros ben sy'n denu llawer o ymwelwyr a phobl leol bob dydd. Mae'r cyhoeddiadau hyn yn hynod bryderus, yn enwedig yn ystod cyfnod o dywydd poeth a'r gwyliau haf, pan mae mwy ohonom ni’n heidio i lan y môr.
“Mae gollyngiadau o’r fath yn destun pryder iechyd cyhoeddus difrifol ac ni allwn ganiatáu iddyn nhw barhau. Heddiw, rydw i wedi ysgrifennu at y Dirprwy Brif Weinidog ac Ysgrifennydd y Cabinet dros Newid Hinsawdd a Materion Gwledig, Huw Irranca-Davies AS, ynghyd â Dŵr Cymru a'i Brif Swyddog Gweithredol, Peter Perry, yn gofyn am weithredu ar frys i atal rhagor o'r gollyngiadau hyn. Mae'n gwbl annerbyniol ac yn peryglu iechyd y cyhoedd yn Llandudno.
“Hefyd, hoffwn ddiolch i'r Cynghorydd Harry Saville am dynnu ein sylw ni a thrigolion Llandudno at y rhybudd diweddaraf hwn”.
