Transport for Wales have written confirming that their intention is to have direct train services running from Manchester Airport to Penmaenmawr from May 2026 onwards.

The confirmation comes following Janet Finch-Saunders MS/AS asking that the stop be included in the Network North Wales plans. Before her intervention there was a possibility that the new direct service would not stop in Penmaenmawr.

Commenting on the direct service to Penmaenmawr, Janet said:

“It would have been extremely frustrating for residents in Penmaenmawr, Capelulo, and Dwygyfylchi, should they have to travel to either Llandudno Junction or Bangor to catch the direct train to Manchester Airport.

“With over 4,000 people living in Pen it was commonsense form me to campaign for them to have direct access to the new Manchester train from their local stop.

“Alongside locals, this campaign success could boost the number of visitors to the town. Indeed, with its beautiful attractions, ranging from the glorious beach to Carneddau peaks, there is something for everyone to enjoy there.

“We should never forget that the former Prime Minister, William Gladstone, first came to Penmaenmawr for his holidays in 1855. His visits made the place well known, and helped attract further investment in the town.  I hope that the new direct service in May 2026, and the provision of an international gateway, can be embraced as an opportunity to encourage further economic growth with tourism in the community once again”.
