Changes have been introduced to traffic management on Menai Bridge, with the previous tidal-flow system now removed and replaced by two-way traffic lights.
The decision follows reports of unacceptable abuse being directed at operatives responsible for overseeing the tidal flow system. As a result, the system has been withdrawn. Traffic management is necessary while plant is stored on the bridge to enable the installation of the underdeck platforms.
Janet Finch-Saunders, Senedd Member for Aberconwy said:
“There is absolutely no excuse for abuse directed at workers who are simply doing their jobs. Everyone deserves to feel safe at work, and this behaviour is completely unacceptable.
While I understand the frustrations that traffic disruption can cause, it is important that these essential works are carried out safely and efficiently.
I would urge everyone to show respect to those on site as this project continues.”
Mae newidiadau wedi'u cyflwyno i ddulliau rheoli traffig ar Bont Menai, gyda'r system llif llanw flaenorol bellach wedi'i dileu a'i disodli gan oleuadau traffig dwy ffordd.
Mae'r penderfyniad yn dilyn adroddiadau bod gweithwyr a oedd yn gyfrifol am oruchwylio'r system llif llanw yn cael eu sarhau mewn modd annerbyniol. O ganlyniad, mae'r system wedi dod i ben. Mae angen rheoli’r traffig wrth i’r gwaith gael ei wneud ar y bont fel y gellir gosod y llwyfannau o dan y dec.
Meddai Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy:
"Does dim esgus o gwbl dros amharchu gweithwyr sy'n syml yn gwneud eu gwaith. Mae pawb yn haeddu teimlo'n ddiogel yn y gwaith, ac mae'r ymddygiad hwn yn gwbl annerbyniol.
Er fy mod yn deall y rhwystredigaethau y gall tarfu ar draffig eu hachosi, mae'n bwysig bod y gwaith hanfodol yma’n cael ei wneud yn ddiogel ac yn effeithlon.
Byddwn yn annog pawb i ddangos parch i'r rhai sydd ar y safle wrth i'r prosiect hwn barhau."
