MS Condemns Reform UK’s Calls to Remove Ukrainian Flag / AS yn lladd ar alwadau Reform UK i gael gwared ar faner Wcráin

Janet Finch-Saunders MS has strongly criticised Reform Uk’s Senedd members’ call to remove the Ukrainian flag from outside of the Senedd and has raised concerns over the message it would send to the people of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian flag has flown outside the Senedd since Russia’s illegal invasion began in 2022 as a symbol of solidarity with the Ukrainian people and opposition to Vladimir Putin’s aggression.

Critics say it is absurd that Reform UK, having recently entered the Senedd, are already demanding the removal of the flag rather than focusing on the real issues facing Wales.

Janet Finch-Saunders, Senedd Member for Bangor Conwy Môn and Commissioner said:

“The Ukrainian flag has flown proudly outside the Senedd since the beginning of Putin’s illegal invasion and remains an important symbol of solidarity with the people of Ukraine.

For Reform UK to come into the Senedd and immediately start demanding its removal is frankly absurd. Since arriving, all we seem to have heard from some Reform members is moaning and complaining, rather than providing the constructive scrutiny the people of Wales expect and deserve.

The Welsh Conservatives and I remain fully behind Ukraine and fully support the continued flying of the Ukrainian flag. The people of Wales have stood with Ukraine since day one, and that support should not be undermined for cheap political gestures.”

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders AS wedi ymateb yn llym i alwad Aelodau o’r Senedd Reform UK i dynnu baner Wcráin o'r tu allan i'r Senedd ac wedi codi pryderon am y neges y byddai hynny'n ei hanfon at bobl Wcráin.

Mae baner Wcráin wedi cyhwfan y tu allan i'r Senedd ym Mae Caerdydd ers goresgyniad anghyfreithlon Rwsia yn 2022, fel symbol o undod â phobl Wcráin a gwrthwynebiad i ymosodiadau Vladimir Putin.

Mae beirniaid yn dweud ei bod yn hurt bod Reform UK, ar ôl ymuno â'r Senedd yn ddiweddar, eisoes yn mynnu cael gwared ar faner yn hytrach na chanolbwyntio ar faterion o bwys sy'n wynebu Cymru.

Dywedodd Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd Bangor Conwy Môn a Chomisiynydd:

“Mae baner Wcráin wedi hofran yn falch y tu allan i'r Senedd ers dechrau goresgyniad anghyfreithlon Putin ac mae'n parhau i fod yn symbol pwysig o undod â phobl Wcráin.

Mae'r ffaith fod Reform UK wedi ymuno â'r Senedd a dechrau mynnu cael gwared arni ar unwaith yn gwbl hurt. Ers cyrraedd, dim ond swnian a chwyno rydyn ni wedi'i gael gan rai aelodau o Reform, yn hytrach na darparu'r gwaith craffu adeiladol y mae pobl Cymru yn ei ddisgwyl ac yn ei haeddu.

Mae'r Ceidwadwyr Cymreig a minnau yn parhau i gefnogi Wcráin i'r carn ac o blaid chwifio baner Wcráin. Mae pobl Cymru wedi sefyll gyda phobl Wcráin ers y diwrnod cyntaf, ac ni ddylid tanseilio'r gefnogaeth honno dim ond er mwyn sgorio pwyntiau gwleidyddol rhad.”
