Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Senedd for Bangor, Conwy and Môn, has consistently objected to the proposed relocation of Llandudno Library to Venue Cymru, warning that the move risks deterring current users from accessing the library and its services.
The consultation found that 76% of library users believe they would find it harder to access the service if it were moved to Venue Cymru. This is particularly concerning given that 48.3% of respondents said they currently walk to the library, which is centrally located on the high street.
The Member welcomes a new petition opposing the relocation, launched by Conwy County Borough Councillor for Gogarth Mostyn, Councillor Harry Saville. This follows an earlier petition which gathered 1,800 signatures.
Janet, continues to hear from a significant number of local residents who are contacting her to express their concerns and opposition to the proposed move.
With the library currently set to relocate to Venue Cymru in spring 2027, Janet Finch-Saunders MS is calling on Conwy County Borough Council to urgently review and overturn its decision.
Janet Finch-Saunders said:
“Llandudno Library is a vital community facility, and we must not overlook the clear message coming from local residents. When 76% of library users say they will find the service harder to access, and almost half currently walk to their library, the Council must listen.
“Moving the library away from the high street risks creating a barrier for the very people who rely on this service. This is not simply about moving a building from one location to another, it is about protecting access to a vital public service.
“The strength of local opposition, demonstrated by petitions and the continued correspondence I receive from residents, should not be ignored. I am urging the Council to reconsider this decision before it is too late and ensure that Llandudno retains a library that is accessible, central and genuinely serves its community.”

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Fangor Conwy Môn, wedi gwrthwynebu droeon y bwriad i adleoli Llyfrgell Llandudno i Venue Cymru, gan rybuddio bod perygl y gallai’r symud atal defnyddwyr presennol rhag cael mynediad i’r llyfrgell a’i gwasanaethau.
Canfu’r ymgynghoriad fod 76% o ddefnyddwyr y llyfrgell yn credu y byddent yn ei chael hi’n anoddach defnyddio’r gwasanaeth pe bai’n cael ei symud i Venue Cymru. Mae hyn yn arbennig o bryderus o ystyried bod 48.3% o’r ymatebwyr wedi dweud eu bod ar hyn o bryd yn cerdded i’r llyfrgell, sydd wedi’i lleoli’n ganolog ar y stryd fawr.
Mae’r Aelod yn croesawu deiseb newydd yn gwrthwynebu’r adleoli, a lansiwyd gan Gynghorydd Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy dros Gogarth Mostyn, y Cynghorydd Harry Saville. Mae hyn yn dilyn deiseb gynharach a gasglodd 1,800 o lofnodion.
Mae Janet yn parhau i glywed gan nifer sylweddol o drigolion lleol sy’n cysylltu â hi i fynegi eu pryderon a’u gwrthwynebiad i’r bwriad i symud.
Gyda threfniadau i adleoli’r llyfrgell i Venue Cymru yng ngwanwyn 2027, mae Janet Finch-Saunders AS yn galw ar Gyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy i adolygu ac ailystyried ei benderfyniad ar frys.
Meddai Janet Finch-Saunders:
“Mae Llyfrgell Llandudno yn gyfleuster cymunedol hanfodol, ac ni ddylem anwybyddu’r neges glir gan drigolion lleol. Pan fydd 76% o ddefnyddwyr y llyfrgell yn dweud y byddant yn ei chael hi’n anoddach defnyddio’r gwasanaeth, a bron eu hanner yn cerdded i’r llyfrgell ar hyn o bryd, rhaid i’r Cyngor wrando.
“Mae symud y llyfrgell i ffwrdd o’r stryd fawr yn peryglu creu rhwystr i’r union bobl sy’n dibynnu ar y gwasanaeth hwn. Nid mater syml o symud adeilad o un lleoliad i’r llall yn unig yw hwn - mae’n ymwneud â diogelu mynediad at wasanaeth cyhoeddus hanfodol.
“Ni ddylid anwybyddu cryfder y gwrthwynebiad lleol, sy’n amlwg o’r deisebau a’r ohebiaeth barhaus rwy’n ei derbyn gan drigolion. Rwy’n annog y Cyngor i ailystyried y penderfyniad hwn cyn ei bod hi’n rhy hwyr a sicrhau bod Llandudno yn cadw llyfrgell sy’n hygyrch, yn ganolog ac sydd wirioneddol yn gwasanaethu ei chymuned.”
