MS Calls for Common Sense Approach for Current Energy Crisis / AS yn galw am ddull call o ymdrin â’r argyfwng ynni presennol

The Welsh Government has unveiled a new partnership with the renewable energy sector to accelerate wind, solar and tidal projects, as it pushed towards its 2035 net zero electricity target. Critics say the approach focuses too heavily on hitting targets rather than delivering affordable, reliable energy.

The move comes despite warnings that Wales is lagging behind in investment. Janet Finch-Saunders MS has also expressed concerns that North Wales is currently one of the most expensive regions in the UK for household energy, raising serious concerns whether current policies are actually benefiting residents.

Questions are also being raised over the impact of onshore developments, with fears communities will be overruled, while the UK continues to overlook domestic opportunities, including significant untapped reserves in the North Sea.

Janet Finch-Saunders, Senedd Member for Aberconwy said:

“This is what happens when ideology drives policy. Both the Welsh and UK governments are so fixated on net zero targets that they are ignoring the reality of the impacts on people, creating higher bills, damaged landscapes and growing public frustration.

North Wales already faces some of the highest energy costs in the country, yet we are doubling down on policies that risk making this worse. Instead of rushing through onshore schemes, we should be prioritising a mixture of offshore renewables, nuclear, oil, and gas. We should also be making full use of our natural resources, including the vast reserves sitting untapped in the North Sea.

We need a balanced, common-sense approach that puts affordability, energy security and local communities first, not one driven by ideology.”

Mae Llywodraeth Cymru wedi datgelu partneriaeth newydd gyda'r sector ynni adnewyddadwy i gyflymu prosiectau gwynt, solar a llanw, wrth iddi wthio tuag at ei tharged trydan sero net 2035. Mae beirniaid yn dweud bod y dull yn canolbwyntio'n ormodol ar gyrraedd targedau yn hytrach na darparu ynni fforddiadwy, dibynadwy.

Daw'r symudiad er gwaethaf rhybuddion bod Cymru ar ei hôl hi o ran buddsoddiad. Mae Janet Finch-Saunders AS hefyd wedi rhannu pryderon mai’r Gogledd yw un o'r rhanbarthau drutaf yn y DU ar gyfer ynni cartrefi ar hyn o bryd, gan godi pryderon difrifol ynghylch a yw'r polisïau presennol o fudd i drigolion mewn gwirionedd.

Mae cwestiynau’n cael eu codi hefyd ynghylch effaith datblygiadau ar y tir, gyda phryderon y bydd cymunedau yn cael eu diystyru, tra bod y DU yn parhau i anwybyddu cyfleoedd domestig, gan gynnwys cronfeydd wrth gefn sylweddol heb eu cyffwrdd ym Môr y Gogledd.

Meddai Janet Finch-Saunders, AS Aberconwy:

"Dyma beth sy'n digwydd pan fydd ideoleg yn sbarduno polisi. Mae Llywodraethau Cymru a'r DU yn canolbwyntio cymaint ar dargedau sero net fel eu bod yn anwybyddu realiti’r effeithiau ar bobl, gan arwain at filiau uwch, difrodi tirweddau a rhwystredigaeth gynyddol ymhlith y cyhoedd.

Mae’r Gogledd eisoes yn wynebu rhai o'r costau ynni uchaf yn y wlad, ond rydyn ni’n llunio polisïau a all wneud hyn yn waeth. Yn hytrach na rhuthro i gyflwyno cynlluniau ar y tir, dylem fod yn blaenoriaethu cymysgedd o ynni adnewyddadwy ar y môr, niwclear, olew a nwy. Dylem hefyd fod yn gwneud defnydd llawn o'n hadnoddau naturiol, gan gynnwys y cronfeydd wrth gefn helaeth sydd heb eu cyffwrdd ym Môr y Gogledd.

Mae angen dull cytbwys, call sy'n rhoi fforddiadwyedd, diogeledd ynni a chymunedau lleol yn gyntaf, nid un sy'n cael ei sbarduno gan ideoleg."
