The recent written statement from the Welsh Government outlines the recommendations from the North Wales Transport Commission regarding the ongoing issues on Britannia Bridge.
The Welsh Government has committed to advance further work and assessments for wind deflectors, and also to introduce a variant speed limit system to reduce the amount of accidents and risks.
The three lane tidal flow system has been considered and the NWTC has suggested the additional tidal flow lane would improve journey times, relieve traffic congestion and offer increased resilience by providing additional capacity. This would lead to a 30mph standard limit being applied.
Key stakeholders in the project will now push ahead with a detailed study and risk assessment.
Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has renewed her call for a three lane tidal flow system to be implemented whilst a new bridge is being built.
Commenting on the issue, Janet said:
“This new statement is extremely frustrating for businesses and residents making regular crossings to and from Ynys Mon.
“The risk assessments over the three lane tidal flow system was recommended nearly two years ago in December 2023.
“It is shameful that two years later the risk assessment and other paperwork have not been completed.
"The Welsh Government should urgently implement the three lane tidal flow system and commence work on building a third crossing.”
Mae'r datganiad ysgrifenedig diweddar gan Lywodraeth Cymru yn amlinellu'r argymhellion gan Gomisiwn Trafnidiaeth Gogledd Cymru ynglŷn â'r problemau parhaus ar Bont Britannia.
Mae Llywodraeth Cymru wedi ymrwymo i wneud gwaith ac asesiadau pellach ar gyfer allwyryddion gwynt, a hefyd i gyflwyno system terfyn cyflymder amrywiol i leihau nifer y damweiniau a'r risgiau.
Mae'r system draffig llanw a thrai tair lôn wedi'i hystyried ac mae Comisiwn Trafnidiaeth Gogledd Cymru wedi awgrymu y byddai'r lôn ychwanegol yn gwella amseroedd teithio, yn lleddfu tagfeydd traffig ac yn cynnig mwy o wydnwch trwy ddarparu capasiti ychwanegol. Byddai hyn yn arwain at weithredu terfyn safonol o 30mya.
Bydd rhanddeiliaid allweddol yn y prosiect nawr yn bwrw ymlaen ag astudiaeth ac asesiad risg manwl.
Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi galw eto am weithredu system draffig llanw a thrai tair lôn tra bod pont newydd yn cael ei hadeiladu.
Wrth sôn am y mater, dywedodd Janet:
"Mae'r datganiad newydd hwn yn hynod rhwystredig i fusnesau a thrigolion sy'n croesi'n rheolaidd rhwng Ynys Môn a’r tir mawr.
"Argymhellwyd yr asesiadau risg dros y system draffig llanw a thrai tair lôn bron i ddwy flynedd yn ôl ym mis Rhagfyr 2023.
"Mae'n gywilyddus nad yw'r asesiad risg a gwaith papur arall wedi'u cwblhau ddwy flynedd yn ddiweddarach.
"Dylai Llywodraeth Cymru weithredu'r system draffig llanw a thrai tair lôn ar frys a dechrau ar y gwaith o adeiladu trydedd pont."
