The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders, has praised the “strong stuff” of the School and Nursery Milk Alliance in promoting the benefits of providing school children with milk ahead of World School Milk Day (28 September).
Commenting on the importance of World School Milk Day, Janet said:
“The School and Nursery Milk Alliance have been steadfast in their campaign to ensure all nursery age and young schoolchildren have access to free milk during the school day and have achieved great success in fighting to preserve and expand the offering.
“Providing young children with access to milk has many benefits. The healthy, nutritious drink can aid the learning process, as well as reduce consumption of unhealthier options such as soft drinks.
“Milk provides young people with a great energy boost during a mid-morning break, refuelling the body until lunch, aiding concentration and attention in class and providing a unique powerhouse of nutrients essential for strong, healthy teeth and bones.
“By continuing to offer the strong stuff for free, we ensure that all young people, regardless of background or circumstance, are able to equally gain the benefits of a nutritional milk drink.
“On the eve of World Milk Day, I throw my full support behind free school milk and the School & Nursery Milk Alliance that fight to preserve it.”
