The Welsh Conservatives’ Shadow Minister for Social Care – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has today (2 June) urged members of the public and front-line social care staff members to have their say on how care homes can enable families to safely visit.
Care Inspectorate Wales have announced that they are collaborating with Welsh Government to draft new guidance to help support care homes to enable access to their residents as safely as possible. They have opened a digital contact form to hear from care providers and members of the public about how best to ease restrictions in the social care setting.
Speaking of the call for ideas, Janet said:
“As attention now inevitably turns to the easing of restrictions during our road to recovery, it is vital that the protection of social care staff and care home residents remain at the fore of any planned changes.
“Therefore, I welcome the steps that Care Inspectorate Wales has taken to ensure that the voices of the public and front-line staff are heard in the drafting of the new guidance.
“Throughout this pandemic, I have consistently championed the concerns of the public by urging the Welsh Government to do more to support our care homes. I have implored Welsh Ministers to introduce more expansive testing for all residents and have asked for financial assistance to help struggling homes.
“This moment marks a brilliant opportunity for the public to ensure that their voices are heard once again. I urge those with a stake in the Welsh care system, whether staff or family of residents, to take some time and log their ideas with Care Inspectorate Wales.”
