Public Loos

Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, is surprised to learn that after yesterday's scrutiny meeting at Conwy County Borough Council, the group did not support the Conservative group's opposition to the upcoming toilet closures.

Several local residents attended the meeting to advocate for preserving the public conveniences, with the Conservative group worked tirelessly to oppose the closures. Local Councillors were led to believe that no changes would occur without consultation and that every effort would be made to keep the facilities open. Unfortunately, it has become apparent that promises of clear communication and funding opportunities are not being honoured.

In response, Janet said:

“This is a sad day for local democracy. Questions are not being answered, concerns being ignored and decisions are being made without consultation. This is just unacceptable!

“It appears that conversation about many issues that directly impact constituents are being repressed or denied. For example, by the time reports are presented to a new committee as requested, the toilets may already be closed, meaning that scrutiny is not being permitted.

I will continue to hold those to account, and keep raising the fact that the closure of the public loos will have a profound impact on our community. I urge that concerned residents contact their councillors to have their voices heard.”

Yn dilyn cyfarfod craffu a gynhaliwyd ddoe yng Nghyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy, a alwyd gan grŵp y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig, mae’r Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders AS wedi rhyfeddu wrth glywed, pan gyflwynwyd y ddadl, bod aelodau'r grwpiau wedi penderfynu peidio â chefnogi grŵp y Ceidwadwyr i wrthwynebu cau cyfleusterau cyhoeddus.

Daeth nifer o drigolion lleol i’r cyfarfod i gefnogi cadw ein cyfleusterau cyhoeddus, brwydrodd ein grŵp yn galed i wrthwynebu eu cau. Roedd cynghorwyr lleol wedi credu’r hyn a ddywedwyd wrthyn nhw, na fyddai unrhyw newidiadau'n cael eu gwneud heb ymgynghori, ac y byddai pob ymdrech yn cael ei gwneud i sicrhau eu bod yn parhau ar agor. Fodd bynnag, daeth yn amlwg nad yw addewidion ynghylch cyfathrebu clir a chyfleoedd ariannu yn cael eu cadw.

Mewn ymateb, dywedodd Janet:

“Mae hwn yn ddiwrnod trist i ddemocratiaeth leol. Dyw cwestiynau ddim yn cael eu hateb, mae pryderon yn cael eu hanwybyddu ac mae penderfyniadau'n cael eu gwneud heb ymgynghori. Mae hyn yn annerbyniol!

“Mae'n ymddangos bod trafodaethau am lawer o faterion sy'n effeithio'n uniongyrchol ar etholwyr yn cael eu mygu neu eu hatal. Er enghraifft, erbyn i adroddiadau gael eu cyflwyno i bwyllgor newydd yn ôl y gofyn, efallai y bydd y toiledau wedi’u cau’n barod, sy'n golygu nad yw proses graffu’n digwydd.

Byddaf yn parhau i ddwyn y rheini i gyfrif, a pharhau i godi'r ffaith y bydd cau'r toiledau cyhoeddus yn cael effaith sylweddol ar ein cymuned. Rwy'n annog trigolion pryderus i gysylltu â'u cynghorwyr i sicrhau bod eu lleisiau'n cael eu clywed.”
