Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has spoken of her delight at the selfless monumental effort being made by Llandudno Vikings so to raise money for the Welsh Air Ambulance Charitable Trust, Macmillan Cancer Support, and Blind Veterans UK.
At 10am on 16 December Janet had the pleasure of seeing the Vikings, Nathan Midgley, Sam Midgley-Davies, Jamie Mills, Tom Jolley, Matt Harris & Phil Kendall, set off on a 108 mile backward blindfold walk without sleep from Llandudno Cenotaph to Chester Town Hall and then all the way back again.
The group are asking local businesses, schools, their customers and coach operators, to consider organising their own backwards walking event, regardless of scale. As such, Janet and one of her team, Harry Swettenham, have walked backwards blindfolded through the office so to show their support.
Commenting on the charitable event, Janet said:
“Llandudno Vikings always go above and beyond to support others, as they are doing this weekend.
“They are to be applauded for selflessly giving their time to walk backwards blindfolded all the way to Chester and back.
“Walking to Chester from Llandudno would be enough of a challenge for most of us, so what the group are doing is an extremely impressive way to raise money for charities.
“Whilst at the well-attended launch I could not help but think of ‘I'm Walking Backwards For Christmas’ by The Goons. I hope that as many of us as possible will play that song and walk backwards on at least one occasion so to show solidarity with Llandudno Vikings”.

Mae'r grŵp yn gofyn i fusnesau lleol, ysgolion, eu cwsmeriaid a gweithredwyr bysiau, ystyried trefnu eu digwyddiad cerdded am yn ôl eu hunain, am ba bynnag hyd. Rhoddodd Janet ac un o'i thîm, Harry Swettenham, gynnig ar gerdded am yn ôl wedi'u dallu drwy'r swyddfa er mwyn dangos eu cefnogaeth.
Wrth sôn am y digwyddiad elusennol, dywedodd Janet:
"Mae Llychlynwyr Llandudno wastad yn mynd gam ymhellach i gefnogi eraill, fel y maen nhw'n ei wneud y penwythnos hwn.
"Maen nhw i'w cymeradwyo am roi o’u hamser i gerdded am yn ôl wedi’u dallu'r holl ffordd i Gaer, ac yn ôl.
"Byddai cerdded i Gaer o Landudno yn ddigon o her i'r rhan fwyaf ohonom, felly mae beth mae'r grŵp yn ei wneud yn ffordd hynod drawiadol o godi arian i elusennau.
"Yn y lansiad poblogaidd iawn, mae’n anodd peidio â meddwl am 'I'm Walking Backwards For Christmas' gan The Goons. Rwy'n gobeithio y bydd cymaint ohonom â phosibl yn chwarae'r gân honno ac yn cerdded am yn ôl o leiaf unwaith er mwyn dangos undod â Llychlynwyr Llandudno".
