20 MPH

Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy is encouraging residents to let County Borough Council know where 30mph should be reinstated.

The Welsh Government announced earlier this month that it would be reviewing the guidance and exception criteria it provides to councils. As such, councils are now engaging in consultations to try and ascertain which roads could be reinstated to 30mph.

Many residents have expressed concerns about the new £30 million 20mph limit and its sometimes impractical and confusing enforcement. Therefore, if residents feel that there is a particular road that should be changed then they should write in to the Traffic team at Conwy Council.

Their email is [email protected]

Commenting on the news Janet said:

“I encourage everyone who knows of a road that needs to be restored to 30mph to get in contact with the Traffic team.

“The 20mph policy has been an absolute shambles with drivers facing confusing signage, multiple changes of limit in a short period of time and the very fact that driving slower will decrease Wales’s productivity.

“I am therefore thankful to residents for their continued persistent objection to the policy and welcome the review by the Welsh Government.

“However, it does beg the questions, once the review concludes and rationality triumphs, who will bear the cost of implementing the required changes? £30 million has already been invested in introducing this policy, so I hope that to reduce costs local authorities have kept the 30mph signs they removed.

“If you know of a road that needs changing then do write in, including as much information and reasons as you can. Hopefully together we can end the scale of this vanity project and return Wales to a place of rationality and peace.”

ENDS

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy yn annog trigolion i roi gwybod i Gyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy lle dylid adfer 30mya.

Yn gynharach y mis hwn cyhoeddodd Llywodraeth Cymru y byddai'n adolygu'r canllawiau a'r meini prawf eithrio y mae'n eu darparu i gynghorau. Yn sgil hynny, mae cynghorau’n ymgynghori yn awr i geisio penderfynu pa ffyrdd y gellid eu dychwelyd i 30mya.

Mae llawer o drigolion wedi mynegi pryderon am y terfyn cyflymder newydd 20mya £30 miliwn a bod ei  orfodi’n gallu bod yn anymarferol a dryslyd. Felly, os yw trigolion yn teimlo bod yna ffordd benodol y dylid ei newid, yna dylent ysgrifennu at y tîm Traffig yng Nghyngor Conwy, [email protected]

Wrth sôn am y newyddion dywedodd Janet:

“Rwy'n annog pawb sy'n gwybod am ffordd sydd angen ei hadfer i 30mya i gysylltu â'r tîm Traffig.

“Mae'r polisi 20mya wedi bod yn draed moch llwyr gyda gyrwyr yn wynebu arwyddion dryslyd, newidiadau lluosog i’r terfyn cyflymder mewn byr amser a'r ffaith y bydd gyrru’n arafach yn lleihau cynhyrchiant Cymru.

“Felly, rwy'n ddiolchgar i drigolion am eu gwrthwynebiad parhaus i'r polisi ac yn croesawu'r adolygiad gan Lywodraeth Cymru.

“Fodd bynnag, mae'n codi’r cwestiynau, unwaith y bydd yr adolygiad yn dod i ben a rhesymoldeb yn ennill y dydd, pwy fydd yn ysgwyddo'r gost o weithredu'r newidiadau gofynnol? Mae £30 miliwn wedi'i fuddsoddi eisoes i gyflwyno'r polisi hwn, felly rwy'n gobeithio er mwyn lleihau'r costau bod awdurdodau lleol wedi cadw'r hen arwyddion 30mya.

“Os ydych chi'n gwybod am ffordd sydd angen ei newid, ysgrifennwch gan gynnwys cymaint o wybodaeth a rhesymau ag y gallwch. Gobeithio, gyda'n gilydd, y gallwn ddod â’r prosiect hurt hwn i ben a dychwelyd Cymru yn hafan o resymoldeb a heddwch.”
