In the Senedd yesterday, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Climate Change, Janet Finch-Saunders MS, led the opposition to the Welsh Government’s Waste Separation Requirements (Wales) Regulations 2023.

Commenting after the vote in the Welsh Parliament, Janet Finch-Saunders MS said:

“The requirement to have items separated into so many categories is going to cause huge inconvenience to very busy businesses.

“Many businesses don’t even have the space available for six bins.

“We need a pro-business Welsh Government, so this recycling red tape should be scrapped and recycled into a simpler and more efficient system.”

Notes to editors: Link to the exchange can be found here.

The new regulations will mean that businesses must present the following waste separately:

(a) glass

(b) cartons and similar, metal and plastic

(c) paper and card

(d) food waste

(e) unsold small waste electrical and electronic equipment and

(f) unsold textiles.

Yn y Senedd ddoe, roedd Gweinidog yr Wrthblaid dros Newid Hinsawdd, Janet Finch-Saunders AS, yn arwain y gwrthwynebiad i Reoliadau Gofynion Gwahanu Gwastraff (Cymru) 2023 Llywodraeth Cymru.

Yn dilyn y bleidlais yn Senedd Cymru, dywedodd Janet Finch-Saunders AS:

“Bydd y gofyniad i ddidoli eitemau ar sail cymaint o gategorïau yn creu anghyfleustra enfawr i fusnesau prysur iawn.

“Nid oes gan lawer o fusnesau ddigon o le i gadw chwe bin.

“Mae angen Llywodraeth Cymru sydd o blaid busnesau arnom, a rhaid dileu’r fiwrocratiaeth hon ym maes ailgylchu a sefydlu system symlach a mwy effeithlon.”

Bydd y rheoliadau newydd yn golygu bod yn rhaid i fusnesau gyflwyno’r gwastraff canlynol ar wahân:

(a) gwydr

(b) cartonau ac eitemau tebyg, metel a phlastig

(c) papur a cherdyn

(d) gwastraff bwyd

(e) cyfarpar trydanol ac electronig gwastraff bach heb ei werthu
