The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders, has welcomed comments made in relation to the housing crisis by the Andrew RT Davies, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, in his keynote address to the party conference.

In the speech Andrew highlighted that housing is so expensive in Wales thanks to Labour failing to make sure enough homes are built.

Commenting after the speech Janet said:

“I am delighted that Andrew RT Davies has used this speech to highlight the commitment of the Welsh Conservative party to addressing the housing crisis facing communities across our country.

“The Welsh Labour Government has created this crisis with their failure to meet the levels of house building required.

“In addition, their misguided approach which is obsessed with holiday lets and second homes whilst doing nothing to address the thousands of empty homes across Wales, is a perfect example of why the Welsh Government is failing to address this issue.

“This is why I support the commitment made by Andrew in this speech to explore the introduction of planning compulsion, working to prevent land banking by developers and to see an increase in homes built.

“The Welsh Government need to take real action to address this issue not simply slap a tax on, or place barriers in the way of, second home and holiday let owners and hope that will somehow provide affordable homes for families.

“Real action must be taken to ensure that the Welsh Government does not allow the chance of home ownership to disappear before the eyes of the young people of Wales.”

Janet Finch-Saunders AS yn croesawu ymrwymiad y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig i fynd i'r afael â'r argyfwng tai

Mae'r Aelod o'r Senedd dros Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders, wedi croesawu sylwadau am yr argyfwng tai gan Andrew RT Davies, Arweinydd y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig, yn ei brif araith i gynhadledd y blaid.

Amlinellodd Andrew fod tai mor ddrud yng Nghymru yn sgil methiant Llafur i sicrhau bod digon o gartrefi'n cael eu hadeiladu.

Wrth siarad wedi'r araith, dywedodd Janet:

“Rwy'n falch iawn bod Andrew RT Davies wedi defnyddio'r araith hon i dynnu sylw at ymrwymiad y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig i fynd i'r afael â'r argyfwng tai sy'n wynebu cymunedau ar hyd a lled y wlad.

“Mae Llywodraeth Lafur Cymru wedi creu'r argyfwng hwn trwy fethu cwrdd â'r lefelau o dai sydd angen eu hadeiladu.

“Yn ogystal, mae eu hobsesiwn annoeth â llety gwyliau ac ail gartrefi, tra’n gwneud dim byd i fynd i'r afael â'r miloedd o gartrefi gwag ledled Cymru, yn enghraifft berffaith o fethiant Llywodraeth Cymru i fynd i'r afael â'r broblem hon.

“Dyna pam rwy'n cefnogi ymrwymiad Andrew yn yr araith hon i archwilio'r syniad o gyflwyno gorfodaeth i gynllunio, gan weithio i atal datblygwyr rhag bancio tir a gweld cynnydd adeiladu cartrefi.

“Mae angen i Lywodraeth Cymru gymryd camau gwirioneddol i fynd i'r afael â'r mater hwn, yn hytrach na dim ond gorfodi trethi neu rwystrau ar berchnogion ail gartrefi a llety gwyliau, gan obeithio y bydd hynny rhywsut rhywfodd yn darparu cartrefi fforddiadwy i deuluoedd.

“Rhaid cymryd camau go iawn i sicrhau nad yw Llywodraeth Cymru yn nadu'r hawl i bobl ifanc Cymru fod yn berchen ar eu cartref eu hunain."
