The Shadow Minister today welcomes the news from Betsi Cadwaladr on commissioning 35 in-hours sessions and six out-of-hours sessions each week for urgent dental cases during 2022-23. Having previously raised her concerns regarding the provision of NHS dental care in Aberconwy and following the receipt of correspondence from the Welsh Government confirming the establishment of a North Wales Dental Academy, the Shadow Minister is pleased to see that urgent dental treatment provisions have been increased.

Commenting on the news, Janet said:

“I have been approached by numerous constituents who have highlighted the difficulties they face in receiving regular dental care. Today’s news from Betsi Cadwaladr is reassuring for those in desperate need of treatment.

“In addition to the opening of the North Wales Dental Academy, this should hopefully start to alleviate the growing backlog of NHS dental appointments across the region.

“While I warmly welcome this news, further work must be done to continue to support dentistry across North Wales, to meet the demand for services. I strongly believe that this must be done through a multi-pronged approach, including working directly with BCUHB, private dental practices and in enhancing the area’s attractiveness to recruit and retain dental clinicians.”
