Prostate Cancer Screening Clinic

1 in 8 men will die from prostate cancer, so the Lions Club of Llandudno have organised a free prostate cancer screening clinic to be held at Trinity Centre, Trinity Avenue, Llandudno, LL30 2TQ, from 5pm to 8pm on Monday 24 April 2017. Having been approached by the Club, Janet is proud to be promoting the event, and said:

“Prostate cancer is a serious killer in Wales. Sadly, more than 600 men die every year from prostate cancer in Wales.

“Unknowingly, all of us probably know a man with prostate cancer as a staggering 1 in 8 men here in the UK will get prostate cancer in their lifetime.

“Please take note, if you have a brother or father who lived with prostate cancer your risk increases to 1 in 3.

“So, I call on all men in Llandudno and Conwy County to put your health first, and give a moment of your time to attend the free prostate cancer screening clinic here at the Trinity Centre in Llandudno on Monday night the 24th April.

“Please go, especially if you are 50 or older as 99% of new cases in 2014 were from that age group.

“It really is worth going to the screening clinic as according to Cancer Research UK prostate cancer survival is improving and has tripled in the last 40 years in the UK, probably because of testing”.

Mr Stuart Lowndes, President of Llandudno Lions Club said:

“On behalf of all Lions I would like to thank Janet and so many of the public for their support.

“This is the biggest community project the Lions have carried out.

“We have spent the last year raising money to pay for the clinic. Each test will cost around £20.

“The Club and I came up with the project as I am a sufferer of prostate cancer. I have been clear for 7 years.

“Importantly, I had no symptoms, and only found out that I was living with cancer through the test. Therefore, I hope you all see how important the free prostate cancer screening clinic is.

“The seriousness of prostate cancer in the UK is clear when putting it like this: the number of deaths caused by prostate cancer are the same as a jumbo jet full of men crashing into the Great Orme every 10 days”
