On Wednesday the 18th of May, Janet Finch-Saunders Aberconwy MS/AS attended an event hosted by Tourism Alliance Wales, in aid of celebrating and discussing the rich and diverse tourism opportunities Wales has to offer. As a nation, around 10% of people are employed within the tourism sector, bringing with them millions a year to our local communities. Tourism is worth £887million to the Conwy County, generated from 9.5 million visitors. Since the pandemic, Wales has been one of the worst hit nations in terms of tourism and international travel in the UK .
Commenting on her time at the event, Janet said.
“It was a pleasure to be able to support Tourism Alliance Wales and their chairman Suzy Davies. Organisations such as the TAW play a vital role in working with different industry experts who are passionate about helping boost Wales as a viable and leading tourist destination.
“The Pandemic and Welsh Government restrictions took a direct hit on the Welsh tourism industry and economy along with it. Now that the nation is beginning to move forward, we need to focus on getting visitors back and giving business owners here in Wales the support they need to confidently move forward.
“The Welsh government and Plaid Cymru’s decision to commence the post-pandemic period with exploring a tourism tax and increasing the holiday let threshold just goes to show how out of touch they are with the experience and needs of the tourism sector in Wales. I will continue to work with stakeholders to fight for policy and legislation which actually strengthens hospitality”.
Before coronavirus struck, in Llandudno, 43,000 people worked in the business and tourism industry generating around £3.6 billion a year. Janet is keen to see these levels return alongside a new campaign that seeks to promote Wales as an outward looking nation that values its place in the international community.

Ddydd Mercher 18 Mai, mynychodd Janet Finch-Saunders, AS Aberconwy, ddigwyddiad a gynhaliwyd gan Gynghrair Twristiaeth Cymru i ddathlu a thrafod y cyfleoedd twristiaeth cyfoethog ac amrywiol sydd gan Gymru i’w cynnig. Fel cenedl, mae tua 10% o bobl yn cael eu cyflogi yn y sector twristiaeth, gan ddenu miliynau o bunnoedd y flwyddyn i gymunedau lleol. Gwerth twristiaeth i Sir Conwy yw £887 miliwn, drwy 9.5 miliwn o ymwelwyr. Ers y pandemig, mae Cymru wedi bod yn un o’r gwledydd sydd wedi dioddef waethaf yn y DU o ran twristiaeth a theithio rhyngwladol.
Wrth sôn am ei phrofiad yn y digwyddiad, dywedodd Janet:
“Roedd yn bleser gallu cefnogi Cynghrair Twristiaeth Cymru a’u cadeirydd Suzy Davies. Mae sefydliadau fel y Gynghrair yn chwarae rhan hanfodol wrth weithio gyda gwahanol arbenigwyr yn y diwydiant sy’n angerddol am helpu i roi hwb i Gymru fel cyrchfan hyfyw a blaenllaw i dwristiaid.
“Daeth y pandemig, a chyfyngiadau Llywodraeth Cymru, ag ergyd uniongyrchol i ddiwydiant ac economi twristiaeth Cymru yn eu sgil. Gan fod y genedl bellach yn dechrau symud ymlaen, mae angen i ni ganolbwyntio ar ddenu ymwelwyr yn ôl a chynnig y gefnogaeth sydd ei hangen ar berchnogion busnes yma yng Nghymru i symud tua’r dyfodol yn hyderus.
“Mae penderfyniad Llywodraeth Cymru a Phlaid Cymru i ddechrau’r cyfnod ar ôl y pandemig drwy archwilio treth twristiaeth a chynyddu’r trothwy ar gyfer deiliadaeth llety gwyliau yn dangos nad ydyn nhw’n deall profiadau ac anghenion y sector twristiaeth yng Nghymru. Byddaf yn parhau i weithio gyda rhanddeiliaid i frwydro dros bolisi a deddfwriaeth sydd wir yn cryfhau lletygarwch”.
Cyn i’r coronafeirws daro, roedd 43,000 o bobl yn gweithio yn y diwydiant busnes a thwristiaeth yn Llandudno, gan gynhyrchu tua £3.6 biliwn y flwyddyn. Mae Janet yn awyddus i’r lefelau hyn gael eu hadfer, ynghyd ag ymgyrch newydd sy’n ceisio hyrwyddo Cymru fel cenedl allblyg sy’n gwerthfawrogi ei lle yn y gymuned ryngwladol.
