The Welsh Government in a special budget agreement with the single Welsh Liberal Democrat has allocated £500,000 for refurbishing public facilities in 4 Powys towns. No money has been allocated to the other 21 local authorities in Wales.
Commenting on the decision to only provide funding for toilets in one authority area, Janet said:
“The Welsh Government has said decent, accessible toilets are essential in helping to attract more visitors. That is true across Wales, not just in one county.
“In fact, accessible toilets are essential to public health. The distress caused to residents and visitors who cannot find a toilet is horrendous and a point of national shame.
“In short, the Welsh Labour budget deal with the Lib Dems is a betrayal of public facilities across Aberconwy and Wales.
“At a time when town councils, community councils, and community groups are having to step in to save facilities from closure and some grant bodies are looking unfavourably on applications for public toilet funding, it really stinks that Welsh Labour and Lib Dems have prioritised toilets in one part of Wales”.

Mae Llywodraeth Cymru mewn cytundeb cyllideb arbennig gyda'r unig aelod o Ddemocratiaid Rhyddfrydol Cymru wedi dyrannu £500,000 ar gyfer adnewyddu cyfleusterau cyhoeddus mewn 4 tref ym Mhowys. Does yna’r un geiniog wedi'i dyrannu i'r 21 awdurdod lleol arall yma yng Nghymru.
Wrth sôn am y penderfyniad i ddarparu cyllid ar gyfer toiledau mewn un ardal awdurdod yn unig, dywedodd Janet:
“Mae Llywodraeth Cymru wedi dweud bod toiledau gweddus, hygyrch yn hanfodol er mwyn helpu i ddenu mwy o ymwelwyr. Mae hynny'n wir ar hyd a lled Cymru, nid dim ond mewn un sir.
“Mewn gwirionedd, mae toiledau hygyrch yn hanfodol i iechyd y cyhoedd. Mae'r trallod sy'n cael ei achosi i drigolion ac ymwelwyr sy'n methu dod o hyd i doiled yn erchyll ac yn destun cywilydd cenedlaethol.
“Yn syml, mae cytundeb cyllideb Llafur Cymru a'r Democratiaid Rhyddfrydol yn frad o gyfleusterau cyhoeddus ledled Aberconwy a Chymru.
“Ar adeg pan mae cynghorau tref, cynghorau cymuned, a grwpiau cymunedol yn gorfod camu i'r adwy i achub cyfleusterau rhag cau a rhai cyrff grant yn troi eu trwynau ar geisiadau am gyllid ar gyfer toiledau cyhoeddus, mae'n drewi bod Llafur Cymru a'r Democratiaid Rhyddfrydol wedi blaenoriaethu toiledau mewn un rhan o Gymru”.
