In concluding her Wales Climate Week 2021 activities, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy – Janet Finch-Saunders MS – has spoken of her intention to explore the further introduction of new woodland burial sites across Wales, including stating a wish to see one introduced to support the burial wishes of those living in the large town of Llandudno.

In a Written Question to the Welsh Government’s Minister for Local Government, Janet asked:

“Will the Minister confirm what steps the Welsh Government is taking to facilitate local authority provision of woodland burial sites?

Speaking of her intervention, Janet said:

“Ensuring that people have the option of woodland burials across Wales will enable individuals to have a lasting and positive impact on our natural environment.

“What better way to celebrate life than by planting a tree that will continue to develop and grow on a daily basis?

“This natural memorial will also have a positive impact on our united mission to tackle climate change.”

At present, there are only two active woodland burial sites in the constituency of Aberconwy - Rhandir Hedd Cemetery and Tan y Foel Cemetery. The site at Llanrhos Cemetery is reportedly not accepting new burials at this time.
