It has been reported that the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, has dropped plans to increase income tax rates in the budget.
Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, welcomes this report, commenting:
“The reports of the Chancellor U-turning on the decision to increase income tax rates are very welcome. Since the last tax increases imposed by the Chancellor, such as the rise in employers’ National Insurance contributions, many businesses across Wales and the UK have been struggling to fill job vacancies due to increased costs. A lack of disposable income has also been cited as a cause of declining consumer spending.
“More needs to be done to put money back into people’s pockets. While the decision not to increase income tax rates is a step in the right direction, it does not go far enough.
“The Welsh Conservatives have pledged to cut income tax as part of their plan to Fix Wales and to Fix the Welsh Economy. Increasing disposable income will benefit the Welsh economy and local businesses, as people will have more money to spend locally.
“We need to strengthen our economy and make Wales, and the UK as a whole, an attractive place for business and investment.”

Mae adroddiadau bod y Canghellor, Rachel Reeves, wedi rhoi’r gorau i gynlluniau i gynyddu cyfraddau treth incwm yn y gyllideb.
Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, yn croesawu hyn, gan ddweud:
"Rwy’n falch iawn o glywed yr adroddiadau bod y Canghellor am wneud tro pedol ar y penderfyniad i gynyddu cyfraddau treth incwm. Ers y codiadau treth diwethaf a osodwyd gan y Canghellor, fel y newidiadau i gyfraniadau Yswiriant Gwladol cyflogwyr, mae llawer o fusnesau ledled Cymru a'r DU wedi bod yn cael trafferth llenwi swyddi gwag yn sgil costau cynyddol. Mae diffyg incwm gwario hefyd wedi'i nodi fel un o achosion y gostyngiad yng ngwariant defnyddwyr.
"Mae angen gwneud mwy i roi arian yn ôl ym mhocedi pobl. Er bod y penderfyniad i beidio â chynyddu cyfraddau treth incwm yn gam i'r cyfeiriad iawn, dydy o ddim yn mynd yn ddigon pell.
"Mae'r Ceidwadwyr Cymreig wedi addo torri treth incwm fel rhan o'u cynllun i adfer Cymru ac adfer economi Cymru. Bydd cynyddu incwm gwario o fudd i economi Cymru a busnesau lleol, wrth i bobl fod â mwy o arian i'w wario'n lleol.
"Mae angen i ni gryfhau ein heconomi a gwneud Cymru, a'r DU gyfan, yn lle deniadol ar gyfer busnes a buddsoddiad."
