On Sunday 13th August, the UK Health Secretary, Steve Barclay MP said that he was open to requests from other UK nations so that patients could be treated in England to help tackle waiting lists.

However, the Welsh Government (WG) Health Minister, Eluned Morgan MS criticised the Health Secretary and called his offer a political stunt.

Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has commented saying:

“I would like to thank the UK Health Secretary for his very sensible offer given the shambles that our health service has become here in North Wales.  Currently, I have numerous constituents waiting in agonising pain, having themselves been on a waiting list for the past two years and yet no sign of them receiving treatment this year.

“When speaking to constituents, it is apparent they would love the opportunity to be seen much quicker and treated in an English hospital, rather than wait endlessly to be free from pain.

The Welsh Labour Government and indeed the Health Minister should now be co-operating and working with the UK Government to see waiting lists dramatically reduced, as is the case over the border in England.

“I would strongly urge the Minister to accept this much needed offer of help”.

Ddydd Sul 13 Awst, dywedodd Steve Barclay, Aelod Seneddol ac Ysgrifennydd Iechyd y DU, ei fod yn agored i geisiadau gan wledydd eraill y DU fel y gallai cleifion gael eu trin yn Lloegr er mwyn helpu i fynd i'r afael â rhestrau aros.

Fodd bynnag, cafodd y cynnig ei feirniadu fel stỳnt gwleidyddol gan Eluned Morgan AS, Gweinidog Iechyd Llywodraeth Cymru.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi ymateb trwy ddweud:

“Hoffwn ddiolch i Ysgrifennydd Iechyd y DU am ei gynnig call a synhwyrol iawn o ystyried llanast llwyr ein gwasanaeth iechyd yma yn y gogledd. Ar hyn o bryd, mae llawer o'm hetholwyr yn disgwyl mewn poen parhaus, ar ôl bod ar restr aros am y ddwy flynedd ddiwethaf, heb unrhyw arwydd o driniaeth eleni eto.

“Wrth siarad ag etholwyr, mae'n amlwg y byddent wrth eu bodd yn cael eu gweld yn llawer cyflymach a'u trin mewn ysbyty yn Lloegr, yn hytrach nag aros yn ddiddiwedd i gael byw heb boen.

Dylai Llywodraeth Lafur Cymru a'r Gweinidog Iechyd ddod at ei gilydd i weithio gyda Llywodraeth y DU i leihau rhestrau aros yn sylweddol, fel sy'n digwydd dros y ffin yn Lloegr.

“Byddwn yn annog y Gweinidog yn daer i dderbyn y cynnig angenrheidiol hwn”.
