Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Senedd for Aberconwy, is encouraging all residents to take part in the extremely important consultation being carried out by Conwy County Borough Council. The Local Authority is considering options to protect the coastline at Penrhyn Bay from coastal flooding and erosion.
Without ongoing beach maintenance activities the sea wall is at risk of failure, which will place properties and assets at risk from flooding and erosion. The Local Authority are planning to improve the coastal defences by building an offshore T-shaped breakwater between the two existing groynes.
At the same time, they would import shingle to sit in front of the seawall. It is hoped that this will protect the seawall and the properties and infrastructure behind it from the continued threat of the sea and accepted climate change levels. There is also an ambition to improve the promenade.

Commenting on the consultation, Janet said:
“I thank Conwy County Borough Council for the work they are undertaking to protect Penrhyn Bay.
“Doing nothing and maintaining the existing arrangements is not an option, so I welcome the consultation today.
“It is essential that as many residents as possible have their say on this scheme before a planning application is made, so make sure that you get your feedback in before 11 November 2021."
