A WELSH government U turn reducing pressure to build houses despite local opposition, has been welcomed by Aberconwy’s assembly member.
Janet Finch-Saunders said she was delighted by the change in the Welsh government’s guidance to local councils. The government sets targets, year by year, for the number of housing sites in each area. But thanks to lobbying by AMs, local councillors and the public, it has temporarily eased the weight of its guidance while it goes out to public consultation.
The Aberconwy AM had called for the Assembly debate this topic. She said: “The way housing land supply is calculated is unpopular among planning authorities, as it threatens greenfield sites and communities across the country. I am delighted the Welsh government has finally listened to sense and changed its stance.
“Anyone who really cares for our countryside and communities should speak up and call, with me, for the government to go further to ensure a complete change in the calculations.”
