Janet Finch-Saunders AM, Assembly Member for Aberconwy, has slammed a decision to withdraw doctors from Llandudno Hospital Minor Injuries Unit during the week. Following the announcement, the Member has demanded assurances as regards medical cover at this site from the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Well-being and Sport [see Tabled WAQs, below].

Janet said:

“This decision by the Health Board to downgrade services at Llandudno MIU by removing doctor cover during weekdays is an absolute disgrace, especially after £2m was spent a few years ago on the unit.

“The withdrawal of staff will be seen by many residents and visitors as a retrograde step. It is unacceptable to have such a modern, first class MIU facility without a doctor present.

“As the Cabinet Secretary with the responsibility for the ongoing interventions in this Board, Vaughan Gething AM has a lot to answer for, particularly with regards to the apparent lack of strategic workforce planning here.

“What we have here is a further escalation of the crisis BCUHB is continuing to face under the control of the Welsh Government, who sadly continue to let the people of North Wales down.”
